Here we are back with another review. The Detective is Already Dead is one of the most hyped anime of this season. I may be a little early but 10 episodes are enough to form a review. I doubt my view on the series will change much even after the last 2 episodes.
I am not sure how to feel about this anime though. I like it don’t get me wrong but, there are a few parts that are a little iffy. So here are my thoughts about the anime in detail. Mild spoilers are to follow so please keep that in mind. With that out of the way, let’s get started.

Plot

The plot is about Kimizuka Kimihiko. Kimizuka has a tendency to get mixed up with weird scenarios. Whenever he walks down an alley, he witnesses drug dealing, robbery, or something along those lines. He gets dragged into plane hijacking as well. During the hijacking, he meets a detective called Siesta. Siesta later asks Kimizuka to be her assistant, to which he reluctantly agrees after much persuasion from Siesta.
It revealed that Siesta is dead in the present day (3 years later) literally at the end of the first episode. For convenience, I will split up my opinion into 2 parts.
The past story is way more interesting than the present-day one. That much is for sure. Siesta plays a huge part in making the past arcs better but, there is more to it than just that. The past arcs are more intense and unpredictable. The series does one past arc and one present arc in alternation. The past arcs are more of detective and mystery stuff than the present arcs.
The present-day arcs aren’t that great. They are good but are nothing compared to the past arcs. The only saving grace of the present-day arcs is that Kimizuka’s character development is great. He really changed in the past 3 years and it is very apparent.
Except for that, I really have no other complaints. The objectives of the main antagonist organization, SPES are the good old clichés but their abilities are at least well explained and well rounded. I will say this though; it is more of an action-harem anime rather than a true detective anime.

Characters

There aren’t that many characters in The Detective is Already Dead but, Siesta and Kimizuka are by far the best characters. Kimizuka has grown considerably in the 3 years past Siesta’s death. He has been chasing SPES on his own. He has become considerably smarter and he had learned a lot from his late partner. The present-day Kimizuka is really a great character.
As for Siesta, I just can’t praise her enough. It’s literally like the author aimed to create a perfect waifu rather than a perfect story. He achieved this successfully. Literally, everyone who watches the anime simps for Siesta. She is one of the reasons why the past arcs are so great. It’s just something about her personality that just draws you in. The Detective is Already Dead is getting an extra point in the “Characters” section just for Siesta.

The animations and soundtrack are fairly decent. I would call them above average. This is the first time I heard of the studio called “ENGI” so I looked it up and found that they did another really viral anime, Uzaki-chan.
Aside from that, the opening and ending themes are really good. Not just the songs, but the visuals too. Especially the ending is so damn good.

Well, that is it for now. Let me know your thoughts and ratings down in the comments. I’d say that the anime is fairly enjoyable. If you want an intense plot or something, go somewhere else. If you want a good waifu, you are at the right place. I have another review coming out soon so stay tuned to check it out. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
