The Elusive Samurai Has Been Pretty Good So Far…

Article at a glance:

  • The anime’s unique art style, animations, and character dynamics make it highly entertaining, especially with Takauji’s charismatic villainy and Yorishige’s humorous moments.
  • The main cast’s quirky personalities and interactions, particularly Tokiyuki’s natural charisma and development, drive the story and keep the viewer invested.
  • The anime balances its exaggerated, memeable moments with serious undertones, creating a well-rounded and enjoyable experience despite a somewhat weak plot.

This anime is entertaining as hell. The Elusive Samurai presents a very exaggerated and sometimes light-hearted version of history. There are a lot of memes and exaggerations but overall, it is kind of accurate. It is based on the real story of Hojo Tokiyuki and Ashikaga Takauji. But the way everything is presented in this anime is so entertaining and funny. It has an awesome main cast and some fun action scenes to boot as well. It can get serious where it wants to and I like that.

So welcome back to yet another mid-season review. This time I am talking about The Elusive Samurai. And it may not be among my top 3 from this season but I still really like this show. There is a lot to like about this show. Let’s talk about it.

What do I think of The Elusive Samurai so far?

So first of all, the main selling point of this anime is the presentation. The presentation of everything from different characters to funny moments to tense moments is done exceptionally well. The unique art style and animations play a huge role in that. I’d like to praise Takauji’s presentation in particular. Along with his VA delivering a very convincing performance, he owns the screen whenever he’s on it. He takes the charismatic bad guy trope to the next level with how well he is presented and voice acted.

In contrast to that, Yorishige is the funny guy. It is always fun to see what his brain cooks up. His reactions to certain things are gold. Like in episode 7 alone he is part of so many memeable moments. But what I like about him and the rest of Tokiyuki’s allies, in general, is that despite goofing around, they all turn serious when the time calls for it. The dynamics between Tokiyuki and his friends are really well done. Their personalities are unique and quirky and it is always fun to see their interactions.

Tokiyuki despite appearing unreliable at a glance, has a natural charisma that draws people. His character development has been going well so far and I just want to see more of it. The only criticism I can offer right now is that outside of certain moments, the plot has been kind of weak so far. But even that is kind of nitpicking because it is pretty clear that the story for the moment is character-driven. And the characters are good so that’s not a huge deal.

That is all for now!

So yeah, I will give The Elusive Samurai an 8/10 for now for how entertaining it is and how good the character dynamics are. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here.
