There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party… Hear Me Out

Article at a glance:
- Went in expecting pure seasonal slop, came out mildly surprised, Episode 1 was actually… kinda entertaining?
- The absurd-but-charming premise of a Demon Lord guardian falling for a Hero party member does just enough to hook curiosity.
- The show lives or dies on its character writing; mishandle Yoki and Cecilia, and this instantly becomes forgettable isekai fast food.

Look, I went in totally expecting another seasonal slop anime, and to my surprise, There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party wasn’t that bad?? Well, Episode 1 was entertaining at least. Remains to be seen if I will have the same opinion by Episode 12/13, of course. But the whole idea of a Demon Lord guardian falling in love with someone and leaving behind his old life to spend time with her is kind of cute. If they handle the character development well over the course of the season, this could be a nice fast-food anime.
So, yeah, welcome back to another first impressions article. We are talking about There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party. Yeah, these anime names are getting more and more ridiculous by the day. Either way, let’s get started.

What did I think of There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party?
Well, I want you all to guess what the plot is about. It is exactly what it says on the tin. Yoki is a guardian of the Demon King’s palace, and he had been blocking the Hero’s party from defeating the Demon King for a while now. He never killed them, so they just kept coming back to try to fight him again. Well, one day, he just gets tired and lets the Hero beat the Demon Lord and confesses his love to Hero’s party member, Cecilia. Of course, she rejects him, but he still decides to live on as a human after the Demon Lord’s defeat and get closer to her.
Yeah, the whole awkwardness of the plot is part of the charm, I think. Just the concept of something like this happening is so out of the blue that you can’t help but stick with it out of sheer curiosity. There IS something to latch on to here, and I believe it’s worth giving it a few more episodes to see if it really does do something, or if it is just another slop isekai. I do appreciate that Yoki is serious about Cecilia and respects her wishes. Even when her mother offered her hand in marriage, he rejected the offer because he respected Cecilia’s prior rejection.

That type of maturity is something I do respect. So yeah, as I said, at least the first episode was pretty entertaining. Now, outside of Yoki and Cecilia, the anime has nothing else to latch on to right now. I’ll be honest, if the writing fumbles their characters, this show will just become another seasonal isekai slop. So I am not saying this WILL be good, I am saying this COULD be good.
So far, I would say it is a decent 6.7/10 or something.
That is all for now
