Top 5 Anime from Summer 2024!

We are on the last 2-3 weeks of the Summer 2024 season and by the end of the month, I will move on to cover the Fall 2024 content so this is the perfect opportunity to a Top 5 anime list for Summer 2024! I know that this season feels underwhelming compared to the behemoth that the upcoming Fall 2024 season is. But this season still had some bangers that I want to talk about it. So let’s get started.

The Elusive Samurai

This anime is a lot of fun. It is an exaggerated, slightly fictionalized version of actual history and it has everything you’d need from a good shounen-type series. A lot of comedy, awesome fights, stunning visuals, and some really good and entertaining characters. The presentation is everything in this anime and I love it. I really recommend it if you are in the mood for some light-hearted historical fiction with plenty of action.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword

Wistoria is kind of in a similar niche to The Elusive Samurai but instead of historical fiction, it is pure fantasy. Despite the story itself being quite simple for a fantasy, the world-building in Wistoria is really good. And the plot does a good job of making Will a sympathetic and relatable character. Wistoria boasts some amazing fights, great animations, character designs, and some good character writing as well. It suffers from some pacing issues but other than that, it is awesome.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian

I like all the anime I put on this Top 5 list but the upcoming three are my personal favorites from the Summer 2024 season. Roshidere has some amazing characters. Kuze is one of the best rom-com MCs in recent memory. He has incredible character dynamics with both Yuki and Alya. Yuki alone could’ve made this anime entertaining but the fact that we have other amazing characters like Kuze, Alya, and Masha with her just elevates this show so much. On top of all that, Roshidere also has a pretty decent plot which merges really well with the character arcs.

Too Many Loosing Heroines

Another rom-com with some amazing characters. I like that the ending theme of the show changes depending on who’s character arc we’re currently going through. This anime takes the troupe of “childhood friends always get rejected” and runs with it. This anime’s sense of humor is off the walls, the jokes have layers to them. And then you toss in all the drama and great character writing and you truly have something special.

Oshi no Ko Season 2

Compared to the first season, this season focused a lot more on characters. Akane and Kana in particular got a lot of character development in this season. But that’s not all. I like how this season took time to highlight Aqua’s PTSD and we randomly got character development for Melt as well, which I can appreciate. The animations have been stellar as always and the plot also just thickened with Episode 9. The upcoming episodes will continue to drive the plot further.

So yeah, those were my picks for the Top 5 anime of the Summer 2024 season. While I can’t wait for the Fall 2024 season, part of me will still miss it. If it was any other year, this season would’ve been really good but since 2024 is full of amazing seasons, Summer 2024 feels a little underwhelming by comparison. Still, though, I have really enjoyed this season. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
