My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 episode 5 release date, where to watch, what to expect, countdown, and more

Spring 2023 was a pretty packed season. There were a lot of anime I was looking forward to, some delivered, some did not. And well, that is pretty much how every season goes. Some of the animes were surprisingly good though. That is why we are here to talk about my picks for the Top 5 Spring 2023 anime today.

Before we start though there are a few rules to this list I’d like to go over:

  • I have decided to exclude the mainstream anime of this season. So Demon Slayer, Hell’s Paradise, Dr. Stone, and Oshi No Ko won’t make an appearance. I enjoyed these anime a lot too but I don’t want the list to be full of stuff people already know about. Dont get it wrong though, they’re still amazing anime.
  • As always, the list will be in random order and of course, this is all my opinion.

With all that disclaimer out of the way, here are my picks for the Top 5 Spring 2023 Anime.

Mashle

Mashle: Magic and Muscles anime reveals release date, new PV, and key visual at Jump Festa 2023

So starting off, we have Mashle: Magic and Muscles. This anime is comedy gold. Forget everything, just put your brain aside and enjoy this big muscle guy beating the shit out of mages for 12 episodes straight. Mash is clearly a descendant of Saitama. And I am not joking, this anime is literally what you’d get if Saitama went to freaking Hogwarts from Harry Potter,

From his nonchalant behavior to his appetite for sweets to his ‘don’t give a f*ck’ attitude towards most people, Mash is an entertaining character and this series has a lot more entertaining characters like him. It is stupid, it is hilarious and it is fun as hell to watch. A solid recommendation for those who want to watch some comedy after a long day.

Heavenly Delusion

Heavenly Delusion: How to Watch Spring's Biggest New Anime

Next up we have Heavenly Delusion. For how weird this anime is, I did not expect it to catch on as much as t has with a certain section of the community. I guess people like it because it is weird. I am certainly one of those individuals. It has been a while since something like this came out. And it is really well made too.

Opposite to Mashle, this anime is recommended if you are looking for a deep, mysterious, and weird story-driven anime with lots of interesting plot points, this one is for you. It gives an interesting twist on the whole post-apocalyptic thing and has a lot of amazing characters and some intriguing mysteries to round it all off.

Tonikaku Kawai Season 2

TONIKAWA Season 2, Episode 1 – For Nasa and Tsukasa, a Good Start, but a Long Way to Go - Anime Corner

Not much to say here. It is the 2nd season of ToniKawa, it is pretty much exactly what you’d expect. If you enjoyed the first season, you will likely enjoy this season as well. This season introduces us to some hilarious new recurring side characters and man, they’re all so instantly memorable. The comedy is on point and they manage to keep the season feeling fresh despite using the same pattern as Season 1.

Couple all this with some nice little bits of character development to Nasa and Tsukasa and you’ve got a pretty good rom-com. I wish they deviated a little more from the pattern established by the first season but hey, it works and the anime is still entertaining.

Skip and Loafer

Crunchyroll - Skip and Loafer TV Anime Strolls Over With New Trailer, Visual and Premiere Date

This anime is more of a slice of life than romance. The romance aspect of Skip and Loafer is pretty much secondary. It is mainly about Mitsumi and her learning to adjust to her new life in Tokyo. And man, this setting alone leads to some really wholesome and cool character moments in the series. Mitsumi is from an interior area and there are tons of things she hasn’t done. So she literally has a list of things she would like to do. And some of those things are so normal to us city people.

So yeah, a plain and simple wholesome slice-of-life anime with a bit of romance mixed in. It is innocent, it is cute and it is wholesome. It really reminds me of Kimi ni Todoke but I mean that as a compliment. Also, I really like the art style of this show, simple and cute; just like the show itself. Again, an awesome anime to come home and watch after a long day. An easy pick for my Top 5 Spring 2023 anime.

Yamada-kun

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 - Episode 1 - Anime Feminist

Ok, so I always knew that this anime will be good because I had read the manga. But I did not expect it to be this good. This anime quickly turned from just fun to a whole-ass lecture on how to adapt a rom-com. This anime adaptation is amazing. It keeps all the highlights of the manga while covering up some of its flaws and making sure that the experience stays as enjoyable as possible.

Yamada-kun provides an amazing balance of comedy and character work to create a rom-com worth every second. From dealing with the pain of a breakup to just having fun with friends in an online game and from some serious character moments to Akane and Runa just goofing around; this anime has it all. I absolutely adore this anime.

Conclusion

That is all for now. Those were my picks for the Top 5 Anime of Spring 2023, excluding the obvious ones of course. Let me know yours in the comments. Please remember, this is all my opinion and it is subjective. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
