Okay, this is one hell of news to wake up to. I’m sure you’ve heard of Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s novel Alice in Wonderland. Yes, I mean the same book that is now over 150 years old. Yeah, that same Alice in Wonderland is getting an anime movie. I know it sounds crazy and I am just as surprised but it is happening. Alice in Wonderland has influenced so many stories over the years and yes, there have been many mangas/anime as well that took inspiration from it. Well, now we are getting the real thing in the form of an anime movie.

So yeah, welcome back to another news article and today we are talking about something baffling. Yes, that’s right, the original isekai LN, Alice in Wonderland is finally getting an anime adaptation. Let’s talk about it.

What do we know about the Alice in Wonderland Anime?

Well, the production company, Shochiku announced that they will be adapting this classic children’s novel into an anime movie. The production will be directed by Toshiya Shinohara at PA Works. Yuukko Kakihara will be in charge of penning the script. The plot will follow Rise, a modern-day girl who wanders into Wonderland by chance and meets Alice. Nanoka Hara will be voicing Rise and Maika Pugh will be voicing Alice. The movie is targeting a 29th August release date in Japan, the worldwide release is currently unknown.

My Thoughts

Okay, so I am quite excited about this movie. PA Works is a great studio to adapt material like this. One of their original movies, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is quite well-regarded and I like it a lot. Other than that, they’ve made stuff like Angel Beats, Skip and Loafer, Buddy Daddies, Ya Boy Kongming and so much more. They have a thing for adapting such odd things. And then you have the Black Butler director working on this movie too which is great.

So yeah, I have high hopes for this. We all know the source material is great, There’s a reason why this book has endured for over 150 years, and in many ways, Alice in Wonderland is the first isekai. You’d be surprised by how many of the common isekai tropes we see today come from this book lol. After influencing so many anime/manga directly/indirectly, I am happy to see that the original is finally getting an anime adaptation too lol.

Now, it remains to be seen when will they adapt the original Light Novel, the Bible.
