Wandering Witch, LN Recommendation of the Week!

Article at a glance:
- Elaina’s journey offers a mix of light and dark experiences, building a rich, diverse fantasy world.
- Elaina’s development is consistent, and the side characters like Saya and Flan are engaging.
- The story balances light-hearted moments with darker, more intense arcs, keeping it dynamic and interesting.

I don’t think many people know this but I am kind of obsessed with the Wandering Witch LN. Back when the anime adaptation aired, I was really surprised by how good it was. Then I waited a while for Season 2 but caved in and finally decided to check out the LN a few months ago. I have no clue why I haven’t mentioned this LN on the website till now but well, better late than never. So here we are. If you are looking for a fantasy LN with some great world-building, you know something similar to Frieren, you’re in the right place.
So welcome back to another edition of our LN recommendation series, this week we are talking about Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. So let’s get right into it.

Introduction
Wandering Witch or Majo no Tabitabi LN is written by Shiraishi Jougi and illustrated by Azure. It started serialization online in April 2016 and is still ongoing. It got an anime adaptation in 2020 made by C2C Studios. The anime was pretty good and it sparked my interest in the LN so feel free to watch that as well. Just remember that the anime is only a teaser of what the series as a whole has to offer.
Plot
The basic plot of the LN is quite simple. Elaina has been obsessed with books ever since her childhood. She loved the journey of a witch called Nike in particular. So much so that she wanted to become a witch when she grew up and go on a journey of her own. And sure enough, the series follows Elaina’s eventful journey as she explores new places and goes through all kinds of crazy experiences, some light-hearted while some heavy and dark.

A well-done journey story can do so much for the world-building of the series. And it is no different here. Elaina’s Journey balances all kinds of arcs and sometimes gets surprisingly dark. It does now shy away from showing all corners of the world, no matter how ugly they may be. And yes, while the story is mostly about the world and the journey, it also has some surprisingly good story-driven arcs to offer for certain locations. The plot strikes a great balance overall, and it never feels boring because of such variety.
Characters
Elaina is an awesome MC. She is excitable and curious about the world but she is also surprisingly mature when time calls for it. She understands that some people just can’t be helped when faced with certain circumstances. Her character arc may not be profound but her character development is consistent. Her interaction and relationships with characters like Saya, Flan, etc. are really well done.

And then we have some amazing side characters. Saya’s arc is the first arc in the series and it is awesome. And then Elaina’s mom, she doesn’t do much but she is such a great character. Then we have characters like Flan, Sheila, Victorica, and more. Yeah, we have a great cast of characters overall. The dynamics are great and the interactions are fun. Pretty much everything you need.
Summing up
Here’s why you should read the Wandering Witch LN:
- Good plot
- Awesome world-building
- Great art
- Fun cast of characters
