Key takeaways from Manga Recommendaton – We Never Learn
- We Never Learn offers a refreshing take on the harem genre, incorporating a satisfying ending that cleverly pleases fans without spoiling it.
- The manga showcases excellent character development, with each character having their own arc and overcoming their flaws, while the protagonist also experiences consistent growth throughout.
- The cute and bright art style of We Never Learn complements the warm and wholesome atmosphere of the story, making it a visually pleasing read.
Fun fact, this manga is one of the first harem mangas I read. And it still has a special place in my heart. We Never Learn is a really good rom-com anime with an interesting take on the usual harem formula.
Sadly, I cannot reveal what this different take is as I don’t want to spoil the ending of the series. But, the author found a cheeky little way to please everyone with that ending and I love it.
So welcome back to another edition of our manga recommendation series. This week we are talking about We Never Learn!
Introduction
We Never Learn is written and illustrated by Tsutsui Taishi. It was serialized in the weekly Shonen Jump from February 2017 to December 2020. The manga is rather short for a weekly manga, coming in at 187 chapters or 21 volumes. It does have 2 seasons of anime adaptation I believe. I haven’t watched the anime but from what I’ve heard, they’re pretty good.
Plot
Yuiga wants a VIP recommendation from his school, a prestigious scholarship that would cover all of his future education needs. But in terms of his grades, he loses to Furahashi in literature and Ogata in Maths. The principal agrees to hand over the VIP recommendation to Yuiga if he can tutor Ogata and Furahashi as they’re pretty bad at subjects that are not maths and literature respectively.
It is a simple plot that incorporates SOL elements really well. You can already see the path to the harem just by reading the summary. But the plot is well-paced and well-executed. The reasons I like this manga are the interesting take on the ending and the constant character development. That is what separates We Never Learn from a normal harem manga.
Characters
As I mentioned, characters are a pretty big strength of this manga. The character development in We Never Learn is amazing. Each character gets their own arc in which they try to overcome their flaws while Yuiga himself has his character development evenly spread throughout the series. The manga also has some really funny side characters like Yuiga’s mother and his siblings. My personal favorites though have to be Furahashi and Kirisu-sensei.
Art
The art style We Never Learn uses is really cute and bright. It has nice soft lines and the character designs are really cute as well. This art style goes really nicely with the overall warm and wholesome feel of this manga.
