Winter 2026 will be a FUN Season for Anime

Article at a glance:
- After a pretty dry 2025 (outside Summer), Winter 2026 finally feels like a season packed with hype-worthy anime again.
- We’re getting major returns like Frieren, Hell’s Paradise, and even Strange Fake after its insanely early Episode 1 drop.
- From huge sequels to promising newcomers, this lineup has my professional-weeb dopamine receptors fully activated.

It has been a while since we had an anime season as loaded as Winter 2026. Outside of Summer 2025, 2025 was kind of a dry year in terms of anime. Don’t be surprised if the majority of my Top 10 Anime of the Year list ends up being mostly comprised of Summer 2025 shows. 2026 so far looks to be a FAR better year compared to 2025. I don’t mean to say 2025 didn’t have good anime. That would be a straight-up lie. But when you compare it to 2024, a year when I legit struggled to pick the top 10 anime, it just pales in comparison.
Of course, we are bound to have dry years here and there after something as loaded as 2024. But still, it is refreshing to see a large lineup I actually look forward to in 2026. I am a professional weeb, I need my hit of anime dopamine to survive, okay?
But that’s enough messing around. Welcome to another article, and today, I want to quickly go over all the winter 2026 anime I look forward to. We will go from the most obvious to the least obvious. So let’s get started.
But let’s start with a “dishonorable mention.”
Oshi no Ko Season 3 and Jujutsu Kaisen: Culling Game
Honestly, I am not sure if I will watch these shows or not. I may watch them purely for content reasons, but I am thoroughly burned out on both these stories. I KNOW Culling Game and Oshi no Ko Season 3 will be good, but I have been forever soured on these stories now because I know how bad the endings are. But you know, major sequels, so it would be unfair to leave them off the list.
Frieren Season 2

Now THIS, this is worth getting excited about. I cannot wait to get pulled back into this beautiful, nostalgic world and spend more time with the characters I’ve grown so fond of. There is no other fantasy anime that even remotely captures the same feelings as Frieren. So it is hardly a surprise that so many people, including me, are just going crazy waiting for Season 2. I have no idea what Season 2 holds, but I just know it will be a blast, and it will probably drive me to tears again.
Hell’s Paradise Season 2

Mappa dropping 2 high-production animes in a single season again, what could possibly go wrong? But jokes aside, Hell’s Paradise Season 2 is going to be an absolute banger. Things will get much weirder and creepier than whatever we saw in Season 1. Season 2 is where the whole theme of unreliable narrators will really kick in, and story progression will become a lot more interesting. And yeah, the upcoming world lore is going to be just messed up as you can think. Another certified banger incoming.
fate/Strange Fake

After a whole year of releasing Episode 1, we will FINALLY get the rest of the anime in Winter 2026. I have no idea what they were thinking when releasing Episode 1 so far ahead of the rest of the series. But we will finally get to witness one of the most unique takes on the Fate formula, and in my opinion, one of Ryohogo Narita’s best works. Of course, lots of insane action is coming soon, and Strange Fake also has a lot of unconventional and interesting servants, so it will be nice to see them in animation finally.
Golden Kamuy Final Season

Now this is a big one. Golden Kamuy is one of the rare manga that actually sticks the landing with a genuinely satisfying conclusion, and the anime has been doing a stellar job adapting the madness, humor, brutality, and heart of this journey. The plot has been firing on all cylinders leading up to this point, and knowing what awaits, I’m honestly VERY excited. This has been one of the most consistently strong story-driven series of the past decade, so seeing it wrap up properly is bound to be special.
Trigun Stargaze

This is the second season of the Trigun reboot, with Trigun: Stampede being Season 1, of course. And man, Stampede was such a pleasant surprise; it was amazing and a genuinely worthy reboot to an iconic classic. As someone who didn’t get the chance to experience the original Trigun growing up, Stampede felt like a perfect modern gateway into this utterly insane world. So yes, I am absolutely looking forward to Stargaze. If it carries forward the momentum of Stampede, we’re in for something special.
MF Ghost Season 3

Look, I’ll be honest, MF Ghost is only here because Season 2 turned out to be surprisingly decent. After the painfully mediocre first season, Season 2 actually tightened up the pacing, delivered cleaner race choreography, and generally felt like a show that finally understood its own identity. If Season 3 continues that upward trajectory, we might actually end up with a genuinely enjoyable successor to the Initial D legacy. My expectations aren’t sky-high, but I’m cautiously optimistic that things will keep improving.
In the Clear Moonlit Dusk

Everyone knows how big a fan I am of romance anime, and this one seems to have real potential. A grounded, character-driven romance can do absolute wonders for any anime season. And Winter 2026 already has a stacked lineup, so adding a genuinely good romance anime on top of that would round things off beautifully. The premise is promising, and the visuals look great, so I hope this one turns out to be good.
That is all for now
But yeah, that concludes the list of anime I look forward to in the next season. Let me know what shows YOU look forward to in the next season. Again, it fills my heart with joy to see such a stacked lineup for a season, and we are just a few weeks away. These next few weeks are going to be really busy, so it should be fun. See ya!
