Yofukashi no Uta Mid-Season Review

Of course, we have talked about Yofukashi no Uta here before. But the thing is, this anime just keeps getting better and better. Easily one of my favorites this season and maybe even the best anime of the season. Right now, this, Lycoris Recoil, and Fuuto Tantei have a really even fight for my top spot in this season. We’ll see who wins out at the end though.
I just watched episode 7 of the series and I had some thoughts after that. I really wanted to put out my thoughts so I figured this would be a good time for Yofukashi no Uta’s mid-season reviewβ’. So well let’s get started right away.
Plot
The plot of Yofukashi no Uta is pretty straightforward. It is a story about people getting tired of their daily lives and starting to stay up at night because of insomnia or other reasons. Well, not exactly “people”, the story is focused around one guy, Yamori Kou. Now, Yamori meets this vampire chick on his late-night strolls. And he decides to become a vampire himself because he thinks he’ll truly be free if he does that.
Yofukashi no Uta shows a lot of people getting tired of their lives during the day. This leads them to start living in the night because of one reason or another. The show truly embraces how beautiful and alluring the night can be while also acknowledging the importance of the day. While pretty interesting, the plot is not the best part of the series. The versatile cast and the presentation are what carry this plot.
Characters
So here is the first aspect of what makes Yofukashi no Uta good. The character cast is extremely diverse and interesting. Granted, you only see most of them for an episode or two. But, it is kind of amazing that the anime still manages to make you feel connected to these characters. Maybe it is because I can see myself in a few of the characters, who knows? Aside from these side characters though, Yamori and Nazuna are also really well-written characters. I really love how Nazuna goes on the offensive herself and then gets embarrassed.
Animations and Soundtracks
Another aspect where Yofukashi no Uta shines exceptionally well. The presentation of the series is just awesome. The art and animations are really well done and they add a lot of atmosphere to the series. The nightscape looks amazing as hell and man, some of the scenes are just eye candy. A lot of screenshot/wallpaper-worthy stuff. As for the soundtracks, the BGMs don’t stand out as much to me but the opening and ending themes are really well done and presented.
Conclusion
My initial ratings for Yofukashi no Uta are:
- Plot – 8/10
- Characters – 9/10
- Animations – 9/10
- Soundtracks – 8/10
- Night City – 10/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Overall – 9/10
Of course, this may change by the end of the season. But, Yofukashi no Uta is one series where I really doubt my views on it will change anymore. Just because the series has been so consistently good till now, I don’t see how it can get better. Let me know what you guys think in the comments, I will take my leave here. I have to read up on some Fuuto Tantei. See ya!!
