You And I are Polar Opposites Episode 1 was Pretty Sweet!

Man, I am about to do two romance anime articles in a single day. I don’t think this has happened before. But I gave You, and I are Polar Opposites Episode 1 a shot because I thought the art style looked really cute. But to my surprise, this was better than I expected. The whole episode in itself had a small character arc for Suzuki, which was cool to see. And yes, the art is cute as hell, so that only adds to the experience. I may end up enjoying this series way more than I thought!
So welcome back to another first impressions article, and today we are talking about You, and I are Polar Opposites Episode 1! So let’s get started!
What did I think of You and I are Polar Opposites Episode 1?
Let’s talk about the art first, because damn, it looks great. The art is very warm and colorful. I absolutely love how much they play around with Suzuki’s expressions. Despite being a proper gyaru, she is SO expressive, it just warms your heart seeing her act like a lovestruck child. The art alone does so much heavy-lifting in showcasing the emotions of the moments and the story. It adds a lot of visual humor as well. I am always a fan of stuff like this when the anime staff has a bit of fun with the adaptation.
As for the writing, I like how the first episode immediately has a mini character arc for Suzuki. In just the first episode, she learns that she doesn’t have to fear judgment from her friends and grows to accept her love for Tani naturally. And it doesn’t feel rushed because you get the sense that she has been holding her true feelings back for a while now. And the first episode ends with a mutual confession. So props for doing what man romance shows take a whole season to do in the first episode itself. And it doesn’t feel rushed.
But, of course, it remains to be seen if the anime will live up to the standard it has set for itself. The first episode was incredibly good. Will the rest of the series live up to the same quality? Only time will tell. Aside from that, I would like to see more of Tani’s side of things, too. The episode did make an effort to give him a character outside of the cool nerd guy, but we need a bit more of all that.

But yeah, those were my thoughts on You and I are Polar Opposites Episode 1. I haven’t been let down by the production quality of a single show I’ve watched so far. That just feels good after suffering through 12 episodes of One Punch Man Season 3. With that said, though, I will take my leave here. See ya!
