Eve no Jikan, Anime Recommendation of the Week!

Article at a glance:
- Despite being only 6 episodes long, Eve no Jikan effectively delivers a well-executed plot centered on android-human dynamics, offering a fresh slice-of-life perspective on a familiar sci-fi premise.
- The anime features well-developed characters like Rikuo and Sammy, whose evolving relationship and interactions with other unique side characters create compelling dynamics.
- The animations, soundtracks, and voice acting are solid, enhancing the storytelling without overshadowing the plot or characters.

I found out about this anime quite recently. I had heard its name before but I never expected it to be a sci-fi series lol. And I am surprised how much Eve no Jikan manages to do in just 6 episodes. And the episodes aren’t even that long, it is about 18 minutes per episode. Yeah, for how short it is, this anime still manages to give us a great plot with some good characters. The plot isn’t exactly unique, we’ve seen this kind of plot in games and other media quite a few times but it is executed well here so I don’t mind it at all.
So yeah, welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series! This week we are talking about Eve no Jikan or Time of Eve. So let’s get started right away!

Introduction
Eve no Jikan is an original anime. That is, it has no source material in the form of LN or manga. It is made by Studio Rikka and its head writer is Yoshiura Yasuhiro. The anime came out in August 2008 and as I mentioned, it is really short, coming in at just 6 episodes which are on average just 18 minutes long. A standard anime episode is 23-24 minutes on average. The anime was compiled into a movie that came out in 2010 and you can check that out as well.
Plot
The anime is set sometime in the future when androids have become commonplace. They strictly abide by the Three Laws and so does the rest of the society. Under the influence of the Robot Ethics Committee, the androids are treated the same as lower-grade technology like refrigerators. But there is a small group of people who think that their androids are more than just machines. They are called “android-holics” and shunned by the general public.

Rikuo was a normal person, who accepted society’s treatment of androids throughout his life. But this changes when he finds something odd in the logs of his housekeeper android, Sammy. To find more answers, he goes to this cafe called “Eve no Jikan” which only has one rule, humans and androids are equal inside the cafe. What sets this story apart from other stories with a similar premise is that this anime is a presents slice-of-life perspective of this premise instead of leaning on sci-fi, action, or drama. It is a great interpretation of this kind of setting.
Characters
This show has some great characters as well. Of course, we have Sammy and Rikuo as our main duo. Rikuo in particular grows a lot throughout the story as he learns more about androids. Then we have Masaki and Nagi who complement Rikuo and Sammy well. Then we have a pretty extensive cast of side characters that add their own flavor to the cast like THX, Katoran, Akiko, etc. It is a pretty solid cast overall.

Animations and Soundtracks
The production overall is quite decent. Nothing much to say here. The animations and soundtracks are both pretty good and I really don’t have any complaints regarding the production. The voice acting is also quite good.
Summing up
Here’s why you should watch Eve no Jikan:
- Great plot
- Awesome characters
- Great character dynamics
- Really short
