Blue Box So Far Has Been…

Article at a glance:
- While Blue Box is a romance/sports anime, its charm lies in how naturally the romance develops without being forced, and how the sports aspect, though secondary for now, enhances character growth.
- The likability of the main characters, Taiki and Chinatsu, and their grounded dynamic makes the story relatable. Supporting characters like Hina, Kyou, and Haryu also enrich the narrative.
- Despite appearing as an average romance anime on the surface, Blue Box excels in keeping viewers hooked with its likable cast, engaging interactions, and strong production value, making it a must-watch.

Okay, I feel like this is one of those cases where it is hard to explain why I like this anime so much. Something about the combination of the romance and sports genres just clicks. Episode 3 just dropped and I still am nowhere close to pinpointing why this anime feels so good to watch, It just sinks its hooks into you with its likable characters and then just does not let go. On the surface, it seems like an average romance anime but somehow, Blue Box leaves you asking for more after every episode.
Also, I don’t know what’s going on with the Netflix international and Japanese releases. But if you haven’t watched episode 3 yet, don’t worry, I won’t spoil it. So welcome back to another first impressions article today I take on a rather tough task of explaining why Blue Box “just clicks”

What do I think of Blue Box so far?
First and foremost, I have to compliment the cast. Taiki is instantly likable and relatable. He is an average Joe who has a person he likes and is willing to work hard to reach her. He is well aware that Chinatsu is out of his league but that doesn’t stop him from dreaming or at least trying to get to her. As for Chinatsu, yes she is gifted but it is not just that. She works harder than anyone else in her club, she is usually the first person to arrive at the school early in the morning and practices all alone.
Things like that help ground Chinatsu’s character. This situation also provides the base for the dynamic she and Taiki have. And I love their dynamic. Because of sheer coincidence, Chinatsu ends up staying at Taiki’s place but the anime never uses that as a “convenient tool” to force interactions. So far, most of their important interactions have been at the school. The “romance” here feels so natural and I love how it is pushing Taiki’s character forward.

We have some amazing side characters in Hina, Kyou, and Haryu. I can’t speak about Haryu without spoiling Episode 3 but he is a great addition to the cast. I love the best friend trio of Taiki, Hina, and Kyou. The sports side of things has been secondary so far but I can already tell how good it will be. All this time spent getting to know the characters will only make us root harder for them once the sports side of things picks up.
The animations, soundtracks, and overall production have also been great so far.
That is all for now
So yeah, Blue Box is a sports/romance anime and we haven’t had much of either of those two things so far and it is still a joy to watch. It is hard to explain why but just try it and you will understand. I give it a solid 8.5/10 so far. I have been loving it so far. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
