Dandadan Season 2 Has Been Pretty Good So far

Article at a glance:
- After a string of frustrating shows this week, it’s nice to finally have something I’m actually enjoying—Dandadan Season 2 is off to a solid start.
- Jiji’s arc has been a fun and surprisingly layered addition, with some great character moments and world-building despite a few plot contrivances.
- And of course, Science SARU’s animation is killing it, especially in the Evil Eye fight—visually wild in the best way.

Holy, the first positive article this week. This HAS to be a record. Even when I criticize stuff, I usually don’t get mad, but this week I have just been frustrated in all 3 previous articles. I am not tooting my horn or anything here, but I don’t get that mad usually lol. But well, to be fair, I had a pretty bad week, so those vents were needed lol. But finally moving on to something I have been enjoying, Dandadan Season 2! Yeah, I still have some issues with the show overall, but man, the whole arc about Jiji’s home has been so interesting so far.
So welcome back to yet another first impressions article. Today, we are talking about Dandadan Season 2. And I will issue a spoiler warning for this one because some important stuff does happen in these 3 episodes as is. If you don’t want to be spoiled, please watch the first episodes of Season 2.

My Thoughts on Dandadan Season 2 so far
Let’s get my issues out of the way first; there aren’t many, but they’re worth mentioning. I don’t like how the show signals a character is “bad” by having him basically SA the female characters; to be fair, it happened to Okarun in episode 1, too. Still, it gets old after the first 2-3 times. Fan service is one thing, but I dislike it when it becomes distracting or undercuts serious moments. Aside from that, the plot has contrivance issues; everything happens at a very convenient time or works out too well, even when it doesn’t make sense.
And yeah, this happens in Season 2 right off the bat in episode 2, if I recall correctly. Moving on to the positives, Jiji’s arc so far has been really good. Jiji is a great addition to the cast. I like how he has found a good friend in Okarun; their dynamic is just so funny. And the overall writing of the arc has been decent so far as well. Well, the contrivance issues aside, I do like where the story of this arc has been heading. And I do like how much history they added to the whole village and how much backstory they gave to Jiji.

And of course, Science SARU animation never disappoints. The Okarun vs. Evil Eye fight went hard, and it was so incredibly well animated. The area design for the past 2 episodes has been awesome as well, very clear Junji Itou inspirations, but we appreciate those. I also really like the design of the Evil Eye-possessed Jiji. The new opening theme is nice as well, not as iconic as the Creepy Nuts opening in Season 1, but still, it is really good.
That is all for now
Feels nice to finally talk about something I enjoyed lol. But yeah, Dandadan Season 2 has been great so far, and I like the current arc. Very interested in seeing where it goes with the whole volcano thing. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
