How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer is Surprisingly Fun!

Article at a glance:

  • How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer has a hilariously chaotic yet wholesome premise where the guys show up to a mixer only to meet girls dressed as guys, creating entertaining and fresh dynamics.
  • The romance tropes feel unique and fun as the characters hilariously grapple with their attraction, despite knowing the truth, adding an unexpected layer of charm.
  • The cast of six main characters is distinct and enjoyable, with standout dynamics, especially Suou and Tokiwa’s playful interactions; Hagi and Kouhaku could use a bit more depth, but everyone shines in the interactions.

Man, this show is hilarious. I watched four of the five episodes currently available, and I did not stop smiling even for a moment. This manga’s whole concept is interesting and makes for some chaotic character dynamics that are the life of this show. With a title like How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer you’d expect the anime to take a weird turn but it never does. So far, it has been really wholesome and entertaining with just the right amount of chaos. I went into this anime with no expectations but it pleasantly surprised me.

So yeah, welcome to another article. And today we are talking about How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer. I don’t even know what to call this article. Can’t call it “first impressions” since 5 episodes are already out and all that. But anyway, let’s just get started.

What do I think of How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer so far?

Well, the premise of this anime is simple. Imagine you finally manage to convince a girl to organize a mixer for you and your friends. Well, you go into to mixer only to be greeted by handsome guys. Yeah, that’s what happened here. But the guys are just the girls they were supposed to meet, they showed up dressed as men because they work at a drag king bar… yeah, it is just as wacky as you’re imagining. It is chaotic in the best way possible and this crazy premise gives way to so much good stuff.

Even the usual romance tropes like sharing an umbrella become a lot more entertaining when the guys are trying to convince themselves that they are not falling for another dude and it is a girl underneath. It is not exactly mental gymnastics but it always cracks me up. I’m sure more than a few guys watching the show questioned themselves for a moment as well lol. But yeah, that premise adds such a fun layer to the character dynamics and it does a great job of keeping things fresh.

So far, we don’t have a lot of character development for anyone. But all 6 of the main characters are pretty well-written and their characters are clear and distinct. Suou hands down is my favorite so far. She takes full advantage of her job to trouble Tokiwa and she’s so charismatic too. The Asagi and Fuji dynamic is a lot of fun as well. The other two characters, Hagi and Kouhaku need a little more in my opinion but they’re still great characters. And the character interactions are the life of this show and they are always great.

That is all for now

So yeah, How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer is basically a feel-good romance with a huge spanner in the mix. And I find that quite fun and endearing. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here, I’ve had a long day and I need sleep. See ya!
