DanMachi Season 5 Episode 5 was INSANE

Look, man, people told me that DanMachi only gets darker after the Season 4 stuff. And I was like “Yeah, I am all for more gore and more high-stakes situations”. I did not expect “dark” to be whatever I am watching right now. DanMachi Season 5 Episode 5 took a straight dive into the psychological genre and I did not see this coming. My jaw dropped on the floor after watching this episode and ho boy, I can only imagine what comes next. Yeah, people weren’t lying when they said that the story will only get darker.

So welcome to the first mid-season review for the Fall 2024 season. I didn’t expect to be starting with DanMachi but well, after seeing that Season 5 Episode 5… ho boy there is a lot to talk about. Of course, there will be spoilers ahead as I am talking about the latest episode so consider yourself warned. Let’s get started.

what did I think of DanMachi Season 5 Episode 5?

Since the beginning of this season, Syr’s true identity had been a mystery. It was clear that she meant a lot to the Freay Familia and till Episode 4, we only had teases. Well, Episode 5 just went ahead and gave us all the answers we needed. In one of the craziest plot twists, Syr never existed. It was always Freya. She disguised herself as a normal girl and started working at the tavern with Ryu and the others. Meanwhile, she had an aide transform and take her place as Freya when she was gone.

Through their mental link, her aide was able to replace her as Syr too when the time called for it. So this is an insane twist. I did not see this coming and honestly, this kinda stuff makes you question so many other characters. And the show didn’t stop there! Since Syr was rejected by Bell, you know, he has feelings for Aiz and no one else; she decides enough and is enough and goes Haywire as Freya. So Freya can charm people and Bell is resistant to it. Well, she charms the whole city into thinking that Bell has always been a part of the Freya Familia.

Yeah, that happened. Honestly, it was a little unsettling to watch Bell run around looking for people he knows only for them to treat him like a total stranger. It is pretty clear that Hermes and Hestia have some kind of plan and I really look forward to seeing how they plan to break everyone out of this mess. And I hope they take their time with it too, let us get more uncomfortable in this new world with Bell. That would be fun.

So while I do have minor issues with dialog here and there, the story of DanMachi Season 5 so far has been great and Season 5 Episode 5 is definitely one of the best episodes of the series so far. With that said, I will take my leave here. I look forward to seeing more and see ya!
