Komi-san Manga Ending Review – Deserved

Article at a glance:
- Despite Komi and Tadano becoming a couple, their relationship wasn’t explored enough in the final arc, and the ending provided no clear future for them.
- Komi reaching her goal of 100 friends, with Hiki Komorebi as the 100th, made for a heartfelt and meaningful ending that highlighted her growth.
- The story’s later chapters felt too episodic, lacking strong buildup or payoff, which made the final stretch of the manga feel less impactful.

Man, so many major romance mangas have concluded back-to-back, huh? Nagatoro, Kubo-san and now we have the manga ending for Komi-san as well. I would say that there’d be a shortage of romance good romance manga but well, I think Blue Box, My Dress-Up Darling and Tonikaku Kawai will keep us afloat for a bit longer. Though I really hope that we get more good romance mangas soon. You know, I like the romance genre and we all need something new and fresh every once in a while.
Regardless, that is NOT what this article is about. When I wrote the Undead Unluck manga ending review, I promised one for Komi-san Can’t Communicate as well. And be prepared because a lot of points I made in that article will still hold up here. So let’s get started!

What did I think of the Komi-san Manga Ending?
You know what my biggest gripe with the ending was? We never got a proper conclusion or future prospects for Komi and Tadano’s relationship. They confessed and entered an official relationship about 150-ish chapters ago and it still feels like we didn’t see much of it, at all. The 3rd year part of the story doesn’t give enough focus to their relationship and it is often played for comedy. It was pretty much the same in the ending, I wish the ending had more focus on their relationship.
Yes, the ending is pretty good. It was nice and it felt good to see Komi finally achieve her goal of making 100 friends. The graduation backdrop also acts as a nice parallel to show how much Komi has grown since the beginning of the series. Again, it was a very sweet chapter. Hiki Komorebi became Komi’s 100th friend and her character arc was pretty well handled considering she’s similar to past Komi in many ways. A natural and fitting conclusion to the story. I don’t have an issue with the ending itself.

But the thing is, this sweet and heartfelt conclusion is somewhat muddied by how poorly written the later parts of the story felt, more specifically the entirety of the 3rd-year arc. Yes, they had their highlights but the chapters became too episodic after a certain point and they didn’t just have the same build-up or payoff because of this structure.
Oh yeah, the recent volume release also ended up a riddle. We will find out what it means with the next volume release which should be soon. This has caused a lot of people to suspect that we will get a bonus chapter. My complaints would still stand but a bonus chapter focusing only on Komi and Tadano would be really nice.
That is all for now
So yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. Komi-san had a pretty decent ending, I’d say. I uh… I don’t know, this ending needed a little more. It was not bad, don’t get me wrong. We just needed more content from it. Komi and Tadano’s relationship deserves better. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!
