Ranger Reject Review – Why Pacing is Important…

Article at a glance:
- The anime starts strong with a well-paced first half but falters in episodes 8-11, with rushed storytelling impacting major character moments and plot coherence.
- Despite having well-defined characters, some like Suzukiri are underutilized, and the show could benefit from more character-focused episodes.
- The animation and soundtracks are consistently excellent, with both the opening and ending themes being particularly notable.

Right, Ranger Reject, I have waited so long to write this review. I planned on waiting till the last episode is out before writing this but I won’t have much in the evening today so I can’t do that. And I have another big review planned for later today. This anime is very much a story of two halves. The first half of the show is awesome, it is a lot of fun with consistently good episodes. But the recent few episodes have been a sludge. I liked the fast pacing in the first half but in the recent episodes, it is too fast.
Because of this, big moments aren’t given proper time to sink in or sometimes the events are hard to follow. So welcome back to another review, today we are talking about Ranger Reject or Go Go Loser Ranger. There will be spoilers ahead because I can’t discuss the plot of this anime without mentioning some major stuff so consider yourself warned. Let’s start.

Plot
Oh boy. So let me get this straight, I do think that the plot overall is pretty good. The premise is solid and the execution of the said premise is good as well. The only thing that kind of ruins the plot for me is the pacing in episodes 8-11. Those 4 episodes feel unnecessarily fast and this comes at the cost of having the impact taken away from all the big character moments in those episodes. And at times, those episodes are a little hard to follow as well because of how fast everything is progressing.
In the earlier episode, the big plot reveals and character moments felt like a big deal because they were given enough time to sink in. This is completely missing from the recent episodes. I am sure they could’ve managed 1 extra episode. The show has 12 episodes right now, they could’ve scheduled it for 13 episodes instead and made the pacing better that way. But sadly despite the interesting premise and plot, the pacing leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Characters
Once again, I wish we had more time with the characters introduced later in the series. And I wish characters like Suzukiri got more spotlight. Instead despite being an important character, Suzukiri is barely seen after episode 2. And that is a damn shame because this show actually has really good characters that I would’ve loved seeing more of. Each character has a distinct personality and quirks, this helps character dynamics so much. Even D’s character arc is pretty well done. Even when the pacing issues start, his character arc stays consistent.
One last mention to the Red Keeper. He has charisma. There is a certain factor of intimidation whenever he is present on the screen. Everything from his actions to the way that he is portrayed adds so much to his character. You know someone is about to get messed up real bad whenever he is present.

Animations and Soundtracks
This is another praiseworthy aspect of the show. The production quality stays consistently good. The animations are awesome, I love the art style as well. Both the opening and ending themes are bangers with awesome animations. I highly recommend checking out the ending theme at least, it is really catchy.
Summing Up
Here are my final review scores for Ranger Reject:
- Plot – 7/10
- Characters – 7/10
- Animations – 8/10
- Soundtracks – 8/10
- Enjoyment – 7/10
- Overall – 7/10
