Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest, Let’s Talk About It

Article at a glance:
- Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest feels like more of the same, lacking innovation and improvement.
- The plot is predictable and fails to evoke strong emotions, with repetitive themes like “Nakama” and dragons.
- Animation quality pales in comparison to other Summer 2024 anime, diminishing its appeal.

Okay, I know that MAL ratings are often not indicative of an anime’s quality. But I generally agree with them. Not always, but usually, they line up with what I would rate an anime. Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest currently has a higher rating than Alya, Wistonia, Tower of God Season 2, and NieR Automata. It is the third highest-rated anime in the Summer season right now. And I just don’t see it. Why? Why is this getting that kind of rating? And to be clear, I don’t hate this season or anything like that, I just don’t get why it is getting that kind of ratings.
So yeah, you already know this is going to be a spicy one. The last time I put a chef’s hat on, I burned a manga I despised. This time while I am putting the chef’s hat back on, I don’t despise Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest. I just have issues with it. So Chef Okami is in the house and let’s get cooking.

What do I think of Fair Tail 100 Years Quest?
The first thing that came to my mind was that this is just more Fairy Tail. Nothing has changed, it’s the same thing about “Friendship” and it is the same fan service. I’ve already heard the word “Nakama” about 5 times in 4 episodes, and I am sure I will hear it 100 times more by the time the rest of the episodes are through. For a sequel series, I expected an improvement but so far, I see none. Oh yeah, we have more Dragon Slayers because surely we didn’t already have enough.
The whole plot of this arc is also based around Dragons because guess what the original series needed? More dragons. I- come on, man, there were so many better ways to go about this than just throwing in more Dragons just because. I understand that they’re on a different continent now and stuff but the series already had enough dragons, why can’t we move past that? Also, the plot is predictable as hell once again. After watching episode 3, I was pretty much able to guess the entirety of episode 4 and I was right. I even got the split-personality thing down.

Now, predictable doesn’t necessarily mean bad. But like we are going through episodes like nothing. We’re just going through the motions it feels like. Ultimately, my biggest complaint regarding this arc so far is that neither of these 4 episodes made me feel anything. Certain moments were just eye-roll-inducing because I saw them coming from a mile away. I don’t know what more you want me to say. Also, after seeing how high the standard for animations has been in this season, Fairy Tail’s animations just look flat by comparison.
That is all for now
Again, despite my harsh words, I didn’t hate Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest. There are very few anime/manga I truly hate. And all this is just based on the 4 episodes that have currently aired. Surely it will get better in the future, right? RIGHT? But that is all for now, I will take my leave here. See ya!
