Mappa is just Milking Attack on Titan at this point

Article at a glance:
- The newly announced Attack on Titan compilation movie for the final episodes is seen as an unnecessary cash grab, frustrating fans who feel it’s redundant.
- The decision to split the final season into multiple parts and now release a compilation movie is criticized, with the “time constraints” argument deemed unconvincing.
- There’s a growing frustration with Mappa and Kodansha’s relentless focus on squeezing more content from the Attack on Titan series, despite the author’s peaceful retirement.

Look, I was fine with the fragmented release of Attack on Titan: Final Season, it was annoying but Mappa had way too much stuff to work on back then. Yes, it was their fault but still, it was just a minor annoyance at best. But, they just announced a compilation movie for the last few episodes. WHY? Nobody asked for this, the final two episodes of the series were as good as movies as is because of their runtime. So what’s the point of this movie other than just a lazy cash grab?
Hajime Isayama, the author of AoT has peacefully retired and is now running a Hot Spring of his own. But Mappa refuses to let Attack on Titan go. So yeah, let’s talk about this compilation movie. I have to go over the announcement first to rant about it further. So let’s get into it.

What do we know about this new Attack on Titan movie?
So apparently, the last two huge episodes of the series were meant to be released as a single movie but due to “time limitations” they couldn’t make that happen. So this compilation movie is basically an “as the director intended” version of the final episodes. I have a lot of things to say about that but I will do that in a moment, let’s get through the news first. All the core staff members will be returning, Linked Horizon’s song which was used as the ending theme for the last episode will be used as a theme for the movie as well.
I mean, it is a compilation movie, what else do you expect? I don’t think there will be any new scenes added in either. The movie will debut in Japanese theatres on November 8th. You can check out the teaser here.
My Thoughts
Man, Mappa is really obsessed with Attack on Titan. Mappa and Kodansha are hell-bent on squeezing every last drop out of this series. What’s next? A Netflix exclusive epilog that adds nothing? Another compilation movie? I know a lot of people didn’t like AoT’s switch over to Mappa. And, I don’t mind the switch itself, they did a pretty good job of adapting the manga itself. But ho boy did the fumble the release order really bad. “Attack on Titan Final Season: Conclusion Arc Part 2″… yeah, that is dumb.
And the whole time constraints argument doesn’t hold any weight in my opinion. Because it was Mappa who decided to take on so many projects at once. 2022 and 2023 were stacked beyond belief for Mappa. And secondly, I am sure people would’ve been fine with waiting a few more months if it meant having a cleaner release order. So the whole time constraints argument is also dumb.
That is all for now
But yeah, rant over. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. I am off to watch an opera on Discord with my friends for video game lore. Yes, that was a real sentence. See ya!
