Checking back in on this anime was a pleasure. Blue Box has not let me down so far in any aspect and I decided to review episode 8 for this article in particular because this episode is likely to be a big turning point. The show really gets the strengths of both the romance and sports genres. And it does not shy away from using both of them to their full effect. This blend creates something that is not only unique but also a lot of fun to watch and provides you with characters that you can get behind.
We are a third of a way through Blue Box and I just had to talk about Episode 8, so welcome back to another episode review! You already know what we are talking about Spoiler warning is in effect but honestly, there isn’t much to spoil here. So let’s just get started.

Review of Blue Box Episode 8
We continue from the last episode, Taiki finally stole a victory from Haryu after all this time. It always makes me happy to see him win and grow, that is how natural his character feels, And it is pretty easy to get behind because he’s just a dude working hard to impress a girl he likes and maybe achieve something more in the process. Taiki had been getting bits of character development here and there but this episode might lead to a big moment for him. Because in this week’s episode, he suffered a pretty major defeat.
Taiki didn’t get through the Inter-Highs but Chinatsu managed to snag the victory for her team from what it looks like. I can only imagine what kind of frustration Taiki must be feeling after hearing that news. But as we all know, suffering builds character. Speaking of Chinatsu, she has also been getting bits and pieces of character development. I love how the dynamic between her and Taiki is shaping out to be. As their characters grow, their dynamic changes to accommodate that and I love that.

Even the side characters like Hina, Kyou, and Haryuu are written really well. I love the dynamic Taiki shares with both of his best friends. And I also really like the senior-junior dynamic between him and Haryu, Combine all this beautiful character writing with the excitement of a sports anime and you can see why Blue Box just clicks. And the production has been pretty good as well. The animation quality is consistent and the soundtracks are decent.
That is all for now
So yeah, I am curious to see where the story goes from here since it is pretty clear that this episode was an important step in Taiki’s growth. I appreciate how simple this anime is. Relatable characters that you want to root for, great character development and interactions combined with the excitement and “action” sports animes can deliver. A solid 8/10 so far and I may even give it a 9 depending on how things go! But yeah, that’s all from me for now! See ya!
