Vinland Saga Manga Ending Soon

Article at a glance:

  • Article at a glance:We finally have a major manga ending that doesn’t completely fall apart—Vinland Saga’s final arc has been solid and true to its themes.
  • The manga is set to end with Chapter 220 on July 25th, wrapping up a legendary 20-year journey by Makoto Yukimura.
  • With one chapter left, the arc has already delivered emotional weight, closure, and a sense of bittersweet hope—here’s what I think so far.

Finally! Finally we have a major, mainstream manga that did not have an absolutely dogshit final arc. Was the final arc of Vinland Saga perfect? Of course not. But man, is it refreshing to see a good final arc and possibly a good ending after surviving through that streak of terrible endings like MHA, JJK, or Oshi no Ko. Vinland Saga Manga is ending in just 1 chapter, and I remain hopeful that it will be a good ending. It probably won’t be a happy ending, but I think it will be fitting to the themes of the story.

So welcome back to another article, and today we are talking about the upcoming Vinland Saga manga ending. I will cover the news first and then go over my thoughts on the final arc overall. Of course, major spoilers for Vinland Saga ahead; only continue if you are caught up with the manga. With that said, let’s get started.

About the Vinland Saga Manga Ending

Makoto Yukimura, the author of Vinland Saga, posted on his Twitter account on Friday that the next chapter of the manga will be the final chapter of Vinland Saga. So the upcoming 220th chapter will be the final chapter of Vinland Saga. Chapter 220 is scheduled to be released on 25th July in the upcoming edition of the Afternoon magazine in Japan. This concludes a 20-year-long serialization for this truly legendary manga. I will miss it dearly. I wish we got more Seinen mangas like Vinland Saga and Vagabond.

My Thoughts on the Final Arc

Again, spoiler warning, HUGE spoilers ahead.

There is a reason I gave two spoilers, because a very important character died just in the last chapter.

I feel like this is a good spot to end the manga on. Thorfinn finally managed to make a village of settlers along with his family and Einar in Vinland. But things didn’t go well, and despite wanting peace, the settlers were forced to abandon their village. Einar died protecting peace, and currently, we are at the point where, despite everything bad, Thorfinn’s son remains hopeful that Vinland will one day find true peace, no matter how long it takes. That’s a very bare bones summary of the final arc.

Thorfinn and Einar’s friendship was one of the best parts of the manga.

The final arc fits the tone and the message of the series so well. It represents the cyclical nature of violence. Einar’s death was perfectly executed, and it gives Thorfinn more character, too. Vinland Saga likely won’t have a “definite” conclusion, and I think that the author will opt for an open ending, which makes perfect sense in my opinion. The open ending could end on a hopeful note as well.

If I had to fish for issues, I’d just say that arc could’ve been paced a little better, but overall, I still think that it was a fantastic final arc, and I look forward to chapter 220.

That is all for now

But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I look forward to Vinland Saga’s ending because we really need a good manga ending; it has been a while. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
