That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime LN Ending Review

Article at a glance:
- A weird mix of bloated and hollow, the final volumes cram in nonstop fights, yet leave barely any room for the story threads that actually mattered.
- A clean, fitting conclusion, Rimuru becoming a god and Ivarage being wrapped up neatly feels true to the series, even if some character work was lacking.
- Satisfying, but with caveats, a solid ending to Rimuru’s arc overall, though the lack of resolution for key side plots definitely holds it back.

Well, the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime LN’s ending is finally here after over 10 years of serialization. SO many of the popular fantasy/isekai LNs are coming to an end. Mushoku ended a while ago, Ascendence of a Bookword is ending soon iirc too, DanMachi is in its final stages as well, according to what I’ve heard. This is just a repeat of earlier this year, when a whole bunch of good romance mangas concluded one after another. But yeah, it is time for the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime LN ending review.
And for a change, I didn’t hate this ending. Now, of course, it wasn’t perfect, but I am willing to give it some leeway because it is almost certain the side stories from the LN will continue. But still, I have my complaints. So welcome back to my review for the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime LN ending. Let’s get started.
Of course, heavy spoilers ahead.

What did I think of the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime LN Ending?
This is going to sound very dumb, but hear me out: the last few volumes felt bloated and yet inadequate at the same time. Let me explain. The last few volumes of the LN have been nothing but s series of fights. And some of these fights are VERY long. So they didn’t leave much room to explore other story avenues. The little room we did get, though, was used to side stories no one really cared about. So yeah, as odd as it sounds, the final few volumes feel bloated and inadequate at the same time.
I know a lot of people don’t like how cleanly the story ends, but that’s something I disagree with. Ivarage is defeated, and Rimuru basically becomes a God. That’s it. Nice and simple, it feels natural to the overall tone of the story. So, I have no qualms with the ending itself. It was a decent ending. Did I wish we got a conclusion to some of the more relevant side plotlines? Of course, I do. But that’s what the post-main story side content is likely going to be about. Besides that, I do think Ivarage could’ve used a bit more character work.

All-in-all, I am kind of mixed on the ending. I don’t hate it; I do think it is one of the better endings in recent memory. It nicely ties a bow on Rimuru’s story while still keeping him free for appearance in whatever future spin-offs we get. It was a mostly satisfactory conclusion to this long journey. But, as is always the case with endings, it has its issues.
That is all for now
