Yami Shibai’ 17th Season Coming Summer 2026 with New Theme and Cast

TV Tokyo has officially announced that the popular short horror anime series Yami Shibai will return for its 17th season this summer. The new episodes are set to premiere on July 12, 2026.
The upcoming season will focus on the chilling theme of “Ketsu,” which translates to “Decision.” This fresh concept promises to deliver more spine-tingling stories true to Yami Shibai’s eerie style.
The production staff was announced alongside the season reveal. Akira Funada, known for his work on Ninja Collection, will direct. The scriptwriting duties will be handled by Kanako Ishigami, who has contributed previously to Yami Shibai’s 15th season, with support from Hiromu Kumamoto and Mitsuhiro Sasaki.
Storyboard work is in the hands of Shoma Mutou, a familiar name in the Yami Shibai series. This consistent team setup suggests a steady continuation of the show’s unique storytelling and animation style.
Fans also got a glimpse of the new key visual, which captures the unsettling atmosphere Yami Shibai is known for. The image aligns well with the season’s theme and sets the mood for the tales to come.
Additionally, the show’s official site revealed details about the theme song, though specifics about the artist or song title remain undisclosed for now.
This new season keeps up the tradition of delivering short, chilling stories that tap into traditional Japanese ghost tales and urban legends. Its unique stop-motion style and brief storytelling format have made Yami Shibai a standout in the horror anime genre.
Fans eager for quick, unsettling horror narratives can look forward to summer 2026 when Yami Shibai returns to TV Tokyo. Stay tuned for more updates as the premiere date approaches.
