Mushoku Tensei Season 3 is off to a Great Start!

Article at a glance:

  • After an entire season of missing her, Season 3 kicks off by completely shifting the spotlight over to Eris. Seeing her all grown up but still possessing that same fierce, charmingly stubborn personality is the absolute perfect way to open up the new season.
  • If you started a drinking game and took a shot every time Eris mentions Rudy in these first two episodes, you’d be flat-out drunk. Her single-minded obsession with becoming worthy of Rudeus and defeating Orsted has completely consumed her.
  • While the plot isn’t moving at a breakneck speed just yet, these opening episodes do a flawless job of filling in the blanks. From her harsh reality-check losses against other sword styles to Nina heading off to investigate if “Rudy the Myth” actually exists, the character work here is hitting entirely different.

Man, that encounter with Orsted really shook Eris up, huh? That one encounter and being nearly killed shook up her entire worldview. If you don’t remember, that fight was all the way back in Season 1 Part 2 lol. That is such a long time ago at this point. So finally seeing Eris all grown up but still being her stubborn self after all these years is kind of charming. Since Season 3 Part 1 is likely going to be dedicated to her, I couldn’t possibly think of a better set of opening episodes for Mushoku Tensei Season 3.

So yeah, welcome to my very first proper article for the Summer 2026 anime season. And of course, today, we are talking about Mushoku Tensei Season 3. I know it has only been 2 episodes, but here is your spoiler warning. However, there’s not much to be spoiled, just to be safe. With all that said, let’s get started.

What did I think of Mushoku Tensei Season 3 Episodes 1 and 2?

Alright, the moment you start Episode 1, start a drinking game. Take a shot every single time Eris talks about Rudeus, and I promise you will be drunk by the end of Episode 2 lol. Eris really does miss Rudy. I really like how much they emphasize her expression shifts whenever she talks about Rudeus. We get basically nothing of Rudeus in these first two episodes; everything is about Eris and catching up with what she’s been doing. And these two episodes do a great job of showing us what she’s like now. She has such a single-minded focus on killing Orsted and becoming worthy of Rudy that she often forgets to even care for herself.

I wish the anime explained a little more about the sword styles. Because they have some very interesting lore attached to them. For example, the Northern God is from an immortal bloodline. And by the way, “God” here is a rank; the current best practitioner of that particular sword style is given the title of “God.” Maybe they will cover the Northern God stuff later on in the anime. I really like the decision of exposing Eris to the other styles, because Orsted would use all three styles on her. So if she wants to kill Orsted, she needs to know how the other schools fight.

Nothing much happens in the first two episodes in terms of plot significance. But that’s not the point. We haven’t seen Eris for a whole season now. These episodes are just meant to catch us up with what Eris had been doing all this time. And they do a great job at that. Her interactions with Nina and her initial loss to Isolde also give her a small character arc right in the first two episodes. And Nina going to see how strong Rudy is for herself was also a nice touch. She truly didn’t believe that he existed for real, from Eris’s stories about him

That is all for now

Mushoku Tensei Season 3 is off to a great start. We got 2 really strong character-driven episodes to start the season off. Very curious to see where Eri’s journey takes her next. And of course, when she reunites with Rudy, it is going to be one hell of an episode. Let me know what you guys think of Season 3 so far. And well, I will take my leave here. See ya!
