Ameku M.D. – What in the Greggory House Am I Watching?

Article at a glance:

  • Ameku and House share many traits, making it impossible to ignore the similarities despite differences in setting and approach.
  • Ameku M.D. focuses on solving crimes rather than diagnosing rare diseases, making it feel more like a detective show than a pure medical drama.
  • Ameku’s relationships, especially with Takanashi and Mazuru, add depth to the show, making it engaging beyond just the mystery-solving aspect.

I was going to try and avoid the House comparisons when watching Ameku M.D. but that’s impossible. If you’ve watched even an episode of House, you can see the parallels between him and Ameku. Someone gave this anime the title of “Dr. Greggory House reincarnated as an anime girl” and yeah, that is correct. I cannot argue against that title. Sure, there are quite a few differences between both shows but it is still amazing how similar they are despite being from completely different periods and in completely different mediums.

So welcome to another article. Today we are talking about House M.D.- I mean, Ameku M.D. I will try my best to avoid the House comparisons but trust me, they are impossible to avoid when it comes to this anime.

What did I think of Ameku M.D.?

I find it funny how this anime shows up shortly after I finished watching House Season 5 lol. Talk about good timing. To start, yes, Ameku just like House, is a brilliant doctor who usually struggles with people. There are a few key differences though. Ameku doesn’t have a team to bounce ideas off of, her team, well mostly Takanashi is there to just help her instead. And while Ameku isn’t good with people, she still isn’t as outright rude as House. The final difference, Ameku leans more toward solving crime than figuring out some mysterious illness.

Just like House, Ameku is also best enjoyed as a detective show rather than a proper med drama. And speaking of, the cases in Ameku so far have been really interesting. I really like her dynamic with Takanashi, serving as her muscle if needed and they’re simply just the best of friends and I love to see their interactions. Takao’s relationship with her older sister, Ameku Mazuru is cute. She worries about Takao and scolds her when she goes too far. If I were to take the House parallels further, Takanashi would be Wilson, and Mazuru would be Cuddy, I guess lol?

I know it’s only been a few episodes but I do wonder if Takao’s character would become anywhere as deep as House over time. I just hope she doesn’t start taking Vicodin either. Aside from that, the opening theme is amazing. Aimer cooked again, as usual. The animations are pretty good as well. Project No. 9 has done some decent work here. If you liked House and are looking for something similar, well this show will more than likely keep you hooked.

That is all for now

I wanted to at least try to avoid the House comparisons but given that I’ve recently been watching House as well, it is impossible for me not to see all the parallels. But at the same time, I do think there’s enough different about Ameku M.D. to stand on its own two feet. I’d say if you like detective shows in general, you should give this a chance. With that said though, I will take my leave here. Off to play more Witcher 3. See ya!
