Dr. Stone Science Future Episode 1 is here!

Okay, so this episode was mostly a filler by all metrics. We didn’t get any meaningful plot progression in this episode, and while it had some good character moments here and there, I doubt anything will come out of them. Despite all that said, though, Dr. Stone Science Future Episode 1 was a lot of fun. Despite technically being a filler episode, this episode had me grinning from start to finish. I think it was the first time after No Game No Life that I was so interested in a poker game. Well, not counting Balatro that is.

So welcome back to another first impressions article and today we are talking about Dr. Stone Sciecnce Future Episode 1! Of course, all comments I make here will be based on Episode 1 alone and nothing more. And I will be spoiling Episode 1 here so you’ve been warned. Let’s get started.

What did I think of Dr. Stone Science Future Episode 1?

First and foremost, I love the new opening and ending themes. I think my favorite Dr. Stone opening still has to be Rakuen from Stone Wars but this is pretty close 2nd now. “CASANOVA POSSE” by ALI is a great song and the opening animations they made to go along with it are just perfect. There were a few inconsistencies in animation during the episode but the opening theme is incredibly well-animated and it just looks and sounds awesome. As for the ending theme, I love the tarot card feel, and again, the theme song they chose is great,

The episode is basically about a disagreement between Senku and Ryusui. And well, they decide to settle their disagreement through a game of poker. As I said in the intro, this might be the first time since No Game No Life that I was so interested in a poker game lol. To spice things up, Gen was with Ryusui and Kohaku was with Senku. All of them busted out formal clothes and stuff too lol. The game itself was really entertaining. Filled with lots of twists and turns but it did not overstay its welcome.

The rest of the episode was fine. Ryusui got his wish and finally opened a casino. The have a bar inside of the casino too. So while we didn’t get even a tease about the plot of the upcoming arc in this episode, it sure was a blast to watch. As I mentioned earlier, this episode has a few good character moments, especially for Gen but I doubt those will have any long-lasting effects.
