Days With My Stepsister Episode 5 Was Frustrating.

Man, I like this anime. I really do. It is quite well-written and its depiction of the awkwardness remarrying brings is quite accurate. But as much as I appreciate Days With My Stepsister for having characters who feel mature and want to talk things out, Episode 5 was kind of frustrating. And if you did watch the episode, I think you will share this sentiment. It is not that I didn’t like the episode, it is just that given the nature of the anime, we all knew how the episode was going to end up and when that eventually happened, it didn’t feel good lol.

Sorry for being vague but I didn’t want to get into spoilers right in the opening paragraph. We will get into spoilers now though so be warned. Welcome back to another mid-season review. The second one for summer 2024, I believe. And today we are talking about Days with My Stepsister and why I found Episode 5 frustrating. Let’s get started.

My Thoughts on Days with My Stepsister and Episode 5

Before getting into Episode 5, let me compliment this anime again. The character writing and the interactions are quite well done. Even after all this time, there is a slight awkwardness in the interactions between Saki and Yuuta. And that is understandable because of their conditions. A good contrast to this are the interactions between Yuuta and Shiori (his Senpai), they’re a lot more natural because they’ve known each other for much longer.

Saki and Yuuta ended up teaching themselves to not depend on others because of their circumstances and now they have to manage together since their parents ended up marrying. So it is only natural that things will be awkward as hell between them. But again, what I appreciate is that they are willing to talk things out. And the fact that they have a reason to be loners also helps. Most of the time, romance MCs are loners just because.

As for episode 5 though, oh boy. Let’s get started on that. I think we all know where this anime will eventually end up, right? It is right there in the name. So when I saw that episode 5’s first half was focused on Shiori, I knew how things would end up. And I really do feel bad for Shiori, man. She is such a cool senpai but alas. At least they’re creative with the confession interruption this time instead of using something cliches like a phone call or fireworks. And as much as I hate to say it, there was a setup for that interruption as well. So it didn’t come out of nowhere.

So I can’t complain much about it either because of how well it was executed. You know what? Screw that. SHIORI BEST GIRL, I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
