Can A Boy-Girl Friendship Survive Episode 6 was a BLAST

Article at a glance:
- I usually hate not knowing where a story is headed—but Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? makes the uncertainty thrilling. Episode 6 doubled down on bold moves, proving this rom-com refuses to play safe.
- Himari and Yuu’s cowardly pining is peak entertainment, but don’t sleep on Rion—she’s been rejected four times, and the show treats her confessions dead seriously. How many rom-coms have that guts?
- Between Himari’s self-sabotage, Yuu’s awkward teasing, and Rion’s ‘I’ll steal you both’宣言, this anime balances clichés with razor-sharp self-awareness. And hell, it’s working.

You know, usually when I say “I don’t know where the story is going” it is a criticism. But in certain cases, not knowing where the story is going is for the best. Case in point, as of Episode 6, I really don’t know how Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive will progress. But I don’t mind it at all. This show has repeatedly proven that it has more balls than most shows of its ilk and Episode 6 was no different. Things have once again, taken a thing for the unexpected and what I thought would be a regular rom-com is proving to be way better.
So welcome back to another article. Today we are talking about Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive, more specifically, today we will be looking at Episode 6. And of course, this will also be my mid-season review for this anime. So let’s get started.
Of course, there will be spoilers ahead.

What did I think of Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive Episode 6?
In the past few episodes, the dynamic between Himari and Yuu has shifted quite a bit. The show just went ahead and acknowledged that both of them like each other. We also see Yuu starting to tease Himari back a little even though he kind sucks at it. The Himari and Yuu dynamic has always been top tier and both of them being cowards who can’t admit their true feelings just makes it better. This brings us to the core theme of Himari’s character: she is very indecisive, uncertain, and often self-sabotaging.
Every bit of progress she makes is then soon undermined by her own actions. Episode 5 was a brilliant culmination of all this. Wait, with all that talk of Himari and Yuu, did I forget someone? Yeah, the show didn’t forget Rion either. They understand well how awkward Rion’s situation is since she is Yuu’s first crush BUT both Himari and Yuu like each other. By the end of Episode 6, Rion has confessed to Yuu about 4 times now and every single time, Yuu has very clearly rejected her. As I said, most random rom-coms don’t have the balls to do something like that.

And no, Rion’s confessions are not treated as jokes either. They are all serious. And with every rejection, Rion only grows bolder and her decisiveness parallels Himari’s wishy-washy nature. At the end of Episode 6, Rion decides that she will steal both Himari and Yuu away… I am not sure what the means or what the future holds but man, this show has been so entertaining. Can A Boy-Gil Friendship Survive may be very cliche at times but, it is very self-aware. The comedy is great, the art style is cure, and the character interactions are top-tier, of course, I love it.
That is all for now
Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Last so far is an easy 8/10 for me. I also like how the older siblings of our main trio seem to have some sort of history lol. But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I have no idea what the future holds but man I look forward to every episode of this anime. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
