So I watched this anime myself on a friend’s recommendation. I was a little skeptical at first but, by the time the first episode was over I was completely invested. The twists and turns this anime took me through were just crazy. It is full of so much unexpected stuff it is just amazing. And that ending will just leave you asking questions.
So you’ve read the title; you know it, we are talking about Erased or Boku Dake Inai Machi this week. It is an amazing anime and I am something I am sure many of you will love. I am really excited to speak on this anime so, welcome to the 25th edition of our weekly recommendation series, and let’s get started right away.

Erased is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name. The original manga is written and illustrated by Sanbe Kei. The anime is 12 episodes long and is made by A-1 Pictures. The anime aired from 8th January 2016 to 25th March 2016. The story concludes in these 12 episodes so you don’t have to worry/wait for a sequel.
Erased is a mystery anime and it is one of the best I have seen from the genre. The suspense and the plot twists are what define Erased. The fast plot combined with short length really makes this anime great. So let’s talk about the plot in detail.

Plot

Erased follows a delivery man, Fujinama Satoru who has this mysterious ability that takes him a few minutes back when disaster strikes. He nicknamed this ability Revival. Revival triggers once again when Satoru’s mother is murdered but, this time it takes him 18 years ago instead of a few minutes. Satoru must now find the identity of the killer and stop him as a mere kid.
Erased has one plot twist after another. You see how a completely normal introvert tries his very best to stop a killer from killing his friend and then his mother in the future. A lot of stuff is so unexpected that sometimes even the characters don’t know how to react. And there finally there’s the ending that will leave you with more questions than answers. Just watch it, man, it is very hard to explain the plot of Erased like this.

Characters

Satoru definitely takes the cake here. The fact that I love the most about him is that he is not afraid to seek his mother’s help/advice even as an adult. He is really attached to his mother. As someone who’s really attached to their mother, I can really relate to that aspect of his character. Aside from that, Satoru really comes out of his shell slowly through the course of the anime. His and Kayo’s character development is really well done and very well-paced.

The animations of Erased are slightly above average but still nothing too insane. The soundtracks are great though. They really nail the pianos and they hit you in the very hard in the feels. The opening and ending themes are also just chef’s kiss.
