Bungou Stray Dogs S5, Please Stop Doing This to Me…

Key takeaways from Bungou Stray Dogs S5 review:

  • The anime’s plot is highly engaging, with excellent pacing that keeps viewers eagerly anticipating each episode.
  • The series excels in making viewers care about both existing and newly introduced characters, enhancing the overall impact of the plot.
  • Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5 features great animations and soundtracks that complement the action and atmosphere, even though the cliffhangers can be frustrating.

I will try my best to control my cursing during this review but if I let something out, please forgive me. I just watched episode 10 of Bungou Stray Dogs S5 and I almost threw my phone to the ground because of the cliffhanger at the end. See, I freaking adored this season but the cliffhangers are driving me mad at this point.

Every week I think that things can’t get worse but no, the next week’s cliffhanger is somehow even worse. I have almost come to hate the ending theme because of this even though it is a beautiful song.

So yeah welcome back to another one of my reviews. Today I am talking about Bungou Stray Dogs S5. I am barely holding in my urge to curse and go on a spoiler-filled rant because now is not the time for that. So let’s just start.

Plot

The plot is simply amazing. That is all I can say. I haven’t felt so engaged in an anime plot in so long now, I look forward to the new episode every week only for it to last what feels like 5 minutes. Yeah, that is how engaging the plot is. Not only does it deliver an amazing follow-up to season 4, but the plot is even more well-paced somehow. Yes, the story is really good but I have to commend the pacing, it just draws you into the anime so much. The 20 minutes of the episode disappear so quickly that you wouldn’t even notice.

Then there is the amazing story itself. I won’t pretend that the story is perfect but it maintains your engagement in the things going on so much that you won’t even notice the imperfections.Β  But along with the pacing, the plot twists, the continuation of the overall arc, underlying schemes, and whatnot are so, so well done and written.

Characters

You’d think that you’d only care about the characters you’ve seen the most since season 1, right? Wrong. This season even makes you care for the newly introduced characters. Heck, so many things in the plot work because Bungou Stray Dogs S5 is great at making you invested in the characters. The plot will simply lose its impact if you don’t care for the characters. We get some nice character development for pre-existing characters. Of course, quite a few new characters were introduced in S4, they’re all expanded upon and given more depth.

And the villain for this season is just awesome. His identity reveal came out of nowhere and he’s just an absolute menace. And then Fyodor somehow manages to get more sleazy and hateable every episode. For a second it felt like you could understand him in episode 10 but nah, he was just faking it to lureΒ  I also like how Atsushi just admits he doesn’t know what’s wrong or right and just moves on leaving the decision to someone smarter.

Animations and Soundtracks

Bungou Stray Dogs S5 has some really good animations. I have always loved the BSD art style and Bones captures it really well in the anime. The action is fluid and great looking, and the animations for the special abilities have improved considerably since season 1. The soundtracks are pretty awesome as well. The opening theme may not be my favorite among the BSD OPs but it is pretty awesome. The ending theme though, I have come to hate it because of the cliffhangers but the song itself is beautiful with some nice lyrics to boot.

Here are my final ratings for Bungou Stray Dogs S5!

Yes, I am biased, I freaking loved this season.

  • Plot – 10/10
  • Characters – 10/10
  • Animations – 10/10
  • Soundtracks – 10/10
  • F*CK THE CLIFFHANGERS – 10/10
  • Enjoyment – 10/10
  • Overall – 10/10

A rare perfect 10 on everything from me and I genuinely believe that this season deserves it for everything it has put me through. Those were my thoughts on BSD S5 though, let me know yours in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
