Ghost in the Shell Reboot, More Details Revealed!

Article at a glance:

  • Ghost in the Shell is officially getting a TV anime reboot by Science SARU, scheduled for a 2026 release.
  • New teaser visual and promo were revealed, and the main staff includes big names from the original production crew.
  • The episodic format might mess with the movie’s tight pacing, but hopes are high for a solid adaptation.

This anime was announced a while ago, right after Science SARU was acquired by TOHO, if I recall correctly. And back then, I don’t think announced that this would be a reboot. But yeah, the legendary Ghost in the Shell is getting a reboot and it is in the form of a TV anime this time, instead of a movie. An interesting choice, if you ask me. Ghost in the Shell is one of the best animes ever made. And this reboot adaptation could be a good opportunity to draw in a whole new crowd.

I do have to wonder though if they will go on to adapt Innocence in a reboot as well.

But either way, welcome back to another news article. Today we are talking about the Ghost in the Shell reboot. Quite a few new details were announced recently so let’s get into it.

What do we know about the Ghost in the Shell Reboot?

Yesterday, the official website of the new anime series went on to reveal the main staff, a new teaser visual, and a new teaser promo. Of course, the reboot TV series will be made by Science SARU and it is scheduled for a 2026 release, no exact release window yet. The anime will be directed by Moko-chan. The wider production committee of the anime consists of members from Bandai Namco Filmworks, Production IG, Kodansha, and of course, Science SARU.

You can check out the new teaser here! And I think it looks pretty hype.

But that covers all the news for now. So let’s move on to

My Thoughts

Well, pretty much all of the production community for the original movie is here so I don’t see this anime going wrong. All they have to do is follow the story of the movie as it is and add more context to things if necessary. I really want this anime to be good given how legendary both the original film and Innocense are. Speaking of Innocence, I do have to wonder if they plan on remaking that as well. Innocence is highly overlooked, in my opinion, and it deserves some attention as well.

Now, my only issue with a TV anime reboot of Ghost in the Shell is that an episodic release may mess up the pacing. The movie has a relentless pace and it does not give you time to get comfortable. That is one of the major factors of why the movie is so good. So I hope that they manage to make the episodic release work without messing up the pacing too much. But aside from that, I think this reboot should be pretty good.

That is all for now

So yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I am very excited about the Ghost in the Shell Reboot and yeah, I will take my leave here. See ya!
