Article at a glance:

  • I’ve played every horror VN under the sun—None made me laugh like Raging Loop
  • It starts as a serious werewolf mystery… Then a talking Sheep God shows up
  • Spoiler: The plot twists are so absurd, you’ll cry (From Laughter)

I play a lot of VNs in my free time—I am a professional web, after all. As you might expect, I have played my fair share of weird Horror VNs/games, everything from Higurashi to Ao Oni, from Shikkoku no Sharnoth to Subarashiki Hibi. I bet you haven’t even heard of some of those names lol. A widespread storytelling method in VNs is the time loop. You know, we all like a good time loop story and it lends itself well to a genre like VN where choices do matter. But I have in all the horror VNs I have played, Raging Loop has to be hands down the funniest horror VN I have ever played.

And I don’t mean that as a hyperbole, no, no, no. This VN takes itself so damn seriously that it just comes across as funny or scary. I just can’t help but laugh at the sheer absurdity of the plot twists. But yeah, welcome to another article, and today I will be talking about why Raging Loop is the funniest horror VN ever made.

Spoilers ahead!!

Why Raging Loop is the FUNNIEST Horror VN ever made?

So the VN starts as a fairly serious werewolf mystery. Haruaki crashes his bike in the remote village of Yasumizu and he will be stuck there for a while. He quickly gets involved in the festival of Yomi Purge where certain villagers have become “wolves” and must kill one person every night. Your job as Haruaki is fairly simple, find every “wolf” before they kill everyone. With every loop, you figure out more stuff, certain choices reward you with keys and you can use the keys to unlock additional scenes that give you more clues.

Well, here’s the thing, after you figure out who the wolves are and stop them, an Eldritch monstrosity randomly pops and kills everyone anyway lmao. And it does NOT stop there, a talking SHEEP appears out of nowhere and starts speaking to Haruaki (you)… it turns out, that damn sheep is a GOD and he was responsible for resurrecting you and starting the loops anew. YEAH. By the way, the aforementioned Eldritch monstrosity has nothing to do with the actual ending of the game lmao.

It turns out the whole feast was a man-made festival to keep the villagers dedicated to purging the Yomibito. I-… I can’t man, this makes no sense and I find it incredibly funny. Raging Loop is so over the top and absurd that it is hard not to find it funny. And I just talked about the main story, there are so many other instances of weird things like this. For example, the convenience store employee turns out to be Haruaki’s ex (if I recall correctly) and they don’t acknowledge or even mention this fact till very late in the game.

That is all for now

I highly recommend Raging Loop. You can get it pretty cheap as well. It has a base price of 11.99$ on Steam. But at the time of writing, it is on a 60% discount. It makes no sense as a serious story but the absurdity of it makes it very enjoyable. I remember laughing for a whole minute when I first saw the sheep. But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
