The Quintessential Quintuplets Honeymoon-arc Anime Announced!

Article at a glance:

  • The Quintessential Quintuplets Honeymoon-arc anime was revealed at a 5th-anniversary event alongside a new light novel, both with original concepts from the series author, Negi Haruba.
  • Little information beyond the announcement is available, leaving fans curious about studio involvement, release dates, and format, though it’s speculated to be a movie or special.
  • Despite initial backlash for “milking” the series, the arc has the opportunity to provide context to the divisive ending, potentially altering viewers’ perceptions and reclaiming community goodwill, while hopes are high for a return of the animation quality by Shaft.

One of the reasons I waited to cover this news was that I wanted to see the general sentiment surrounding this announcement. And what I saw was most people regard this as “milking” the series. I understand why that sentiment is so commonplaceβ€”especially given that the anime covered the entirety of the source material and reached a divisive yet conclusive ending with the movie. At the same time though, I think the Honeymoon arc could do a lot of good for The Quintessential Quintuplets as a story too.

What do I mean by that? I will expand on that a little later. Let’s cover all the available news first. There isn’t a lot of it but still, it is better to go over the news itself first. So let’s get started.

What do we know about the Quintessential Quintuplets Honeymoon-arc anime?

Well, not much. You know how things go with these initial announcements. There was an event to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the series in the Yokohama arena on Sunday. In the event, this new anime was announced along with a new LN by Hajime Asano. The new LN’s original concept was given by the author of The Quintessential Quintuplets. Which is why it was also announced along with the anime. We do know that this upcoming arc will be an anime original story but the original author, Negi Haruba is the one penning it.

And that’s it. We didn’t get anything more for now. No studio announcements, no release windows, or anything like that for now. So let’s move on to

My Thoughts

I am quite sure given the nature of this arc, the anime will probably be a movie or a special or something along those lines rather than a full-fledged season. I said that this arc could also do a lot of good for the series because it can give further context to the divisive ending. So maybe after people watch this arc, their thoughts on the ending may change. Or at least hopefully they won’t hate the ending as much. So if executed well, this arc can gain back a lot of goodwill from the community.

Far as I am concerned, I think that most of the hate towards the ending is for kind of stupid reasons anyway. No, my favorite character didn’t get the happy ending either. But that doesn’t change anything. Also, this epilogue might bring back Shaft for the animations. And that is always a huge W. That one special they animated stood head and shoulders above the rest of the series in terms of animation quality. So yeah, Shaft! Please come back!

That is all for now!

Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. And despite the general sentiment towards The Quintessential Quintuplets Honeymoon-arc, I am quite sure a lot of people will check it out too. With that said, I will be off to play some more Fallout: New Vegas. See ya!
