MF Ghost Season 2 is Pretty Hype!

Article at a glance:
- Season 2 focuses more on racing with detailed and thrilling sequences, enhanced car animations, and better use of Initial D-style effects.
- Character designs feel dated, slice-of-life moments remain weak, and fan service feels unnecessary, but these flaws are better masked.
- Grown-up Initial D characters appear, Takumi’s VA narrates, and the soundtrack is improved but underused in quieter scenes.

Alright, I finally got around to checking out MF Ghost Season 2, and as the title says, it has been pretty hyped so far. It has improved on Season 1’s strengths, the races, while doing a better job of hiding the show’s weaknesses. The art looks a lot better, and the cars are especially quite well-drawn, as we have come to expect. Now, yes, some of Season 1’s major issues are still present but again, the show does a better job of covering up for them. Yes, there is some stuff I still don’t like and I will cover all that in a minute.
Despite the major issues, Season 2 is still overall more exciting than Season 1. So welcome back to another mid-season review and today we are talking about MF Ghost Season 2! So let’s get started!

About MF Ghost Season 2
Season 1 was a tale of two halves. The races were great but the show struggled a bit with everything else. The characters are just not as good as Initial D. And any slice-of-life moment, just took me out of the show. 8 episodes of Season 2 are out so far and we had a massive race that concluded in episode 8 lol. So yes, the major Season 1 issues are still here but the anime just has more racing so they’re covered up better in Season 2. I wish they also turned down the fan service a bit, this show doesn’t need it. But well, can’t have everything.
Having such a big race, spread over so many episodes allows us to see everything in a lot of detail. Every single overtake feels like a big deal and the races look much better in general. The character designs still feel dated, they just don’t look good with modern animations. The cars, on the other hand, look a lot better than Season 1. They are using some of the old-school Initial D effects on that car and it still looks great. This is exactly what MF Ghost should be about.

Speaking of Initial D, yes we do get to see old fan-favorite characters again. MFG Season 2 showed a grown-up Keisuke recently and it felt good seeing my man again. Takumi’s VA is also the one doing the narration for the show. So I wonder if he will show up at some point as well. Now as for the music, that too is better than Season 1. I quite liked some of the soundtracks I just wish they played the music more often. It is often too quiet in certain scenes but they do remember to play the music for all the important scenes.
That is all for now
MF Ghost Season 2 has been a solid 7/10, It doesn’t exactly improve on Season 1 but it is much better at hiding its issues resulting in a more fun experience. Seriously, go check it out if you’re a fan of Initial D, you’ll like this too! With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
