Yes, yes, this episode is FINALLY here! Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 35: Don’t Chase a Shadow just dropped. And it treated us with the Bankai reveal of one of the best Bleach characters! Shunsui Kyoraku has been among my favorites throughout the series and I finally got to see his Bankai in the anime. I can die happy now, it was one hell of an episode! You can already see just how much I have been loving Bleach TYBW Part 3 so far lol, I can’t stop talking about it.

Yes, it has had some issues, but overall, it has been amazing. So yeah, welcome back to yet another article about Bleach TYBW Part 3, I promise, this will be my final article on TYBW Part 3 before the final review. Let’s talk about Shunsui Kyoraku and his “theatre suicide” Bankai!

Bleach 35: Don’t Chase a Shadow

The episode starts with Mayuri’s modified Bankai getting torn to shreds, yep, the fight between him and Pernida is not over. In the manga, these fights take place back to back but in the anime, they are going on simultaneously. Which is a great change in my opinion. We also get a glimpse of Askin vs. Ichigo before we jump back to Lille snipping the Gotei 13 members. Shunsui catches a glimpse of where he is and their fight officially begins. Welcome to one of my favorite fights in the series.

They go back and forth for a bit, and Shunsui slashes Lille’s gun multiple times. But since his gun is made up of Reishi, he just repairs it instantly. Shunsui catches Lille off-guard enough times to force him to open both of his eyes. Shortly after opening both of his eyes. Lille activates his Vollstandig and it looks just as alien as it was in the manga. Shunui gains some distance and finally reveals his Bankai. Coating the whole area in this beautiful Japanese pain theme and it looks incredible.

Along with the activation, his Zanpakuto spirit, Ohana as he calls her, is also here. Lille can’t see Ohana which is a little funny to me. But the episode ends with Shunsui in Ohana’s lap and having seemingly defeated Lille. It was an amazing episode. Shunsui’s Bankai was really well animated and they gave it all the respect it deserves. They even brought back the classic blank screen before the iconic “Bankai” is uttered. It was perfect and then some.

That is all for now

Next week, we have Episode 36: Baby Hold Your Hand 2. The poem for next week’s episode was by Nemu and if you’re a manga reader, it will make sense. Episode 37 will likely have the remainder of Lille vs. Shunsui. The remaining two episodes, 38 and 39 are pretty much open season. I have no idea what the anime adaptation will do with them given how much they’ve already changed and improved on the manga but I look forward to them!
