We Need More Animes Like Crush At Work

Article at a glance:

  • I Have a Crush at Work stands out because it’s a romance anime with an adult cast, which is a rare but refreshing change from the usual school settings.
  • The show skips the dragged-out confession phase and focuses on an adult couple navigating their new relationship while dealing with real work-life struggles.
  • While the main duo gets solid character development, the side characters sadly don’t get much spotlight, which is the biggest letdown of the show.

What do I mean by animes like I have a Crush at Work here? Well, I basically mean romance animes with an adult cast. For some reason, this is rather rare, and I feel like whenever we get a romance anime with an adult cast, it ends up being pretty good. By far the best example of this is Wotakoi, but then we have lesser-known shows like The Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague. Most romance animes feature teenagers and schools. So a romance show with an adult cast is a nice break from that pattern.

And if you haven’t figured it out already, I am writing this articule purely to gush about how good I Have a Crush at Work is. Welcome back to another article. You know what we are talking about, so let’s get started.

Why did I enjoy I have a Crush at Work?

Aside from being a romance anime with an adult cast, I also like how the “confession” part is already done with. Most romance animes really drag that part out. So we follow an adult couple who have just started dating recently in the show and this makes for some interesting character dynamics. Both Yui and Masugu are still learning how to support each other, both of them oftern get stressed from the work and seek company. Which I find quite charming. An approach like this avoids a lot of the romance tropes we have seen time and again.

And of course, then comes the twist. To avoid having rumors spread, Masugu and Yui are hiding the fact that they’re dating from their colleagues. This creates quite a few awkward scenes at the office. But there is charm in this awkwardness. I touched on it briefly earlier but this anime does not shy away from showcasing some real adult problems. Both Masugu and Yui have their own set of issues to deal with at the work. And this makes for some great character moments for each of them.

The only big complaint I have with this anime is that the side charcters are basically nonexistent. Masugu and Yui are a great pair. And both of them get a decent bit of character development throughout the series as well. I just wished that certain side characters like Soumei had more to do. But overall, the show is still very entertaining and it features some good character work as well.

That is all for now

That’s about it really. I have a Crush at Work feature an interesting adult cast and it does not shy away from showing their everday struggles. It it not my favorite romance anime by any means but there are things that this anime does really well. And I wish we get more shows like this in the future. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
