Something Happened in the Rent-A-Girlfriend Manga…

Article at a glance:

  • This isn’t a review. It’s a public meltdown. I caught up to Rent-a-Girlfriend and now I need therapy.
  • ALMOST 400 chapters in and still no real payoff. One confession. No development. Just pain.
  • If glacial pacing was a sport, this manga would have Olympic gold. 29 chapters for one date. Kill me.
No, I am not giving you context for this. In fact, I’ll even zoom in the image further than the original to make it even more SUS.

Yes, I am making this article for pure emotional satisfaction and content reasons. As you all know by now, I don’t give a rat’s ass about this manga, I hate it from the bottom of my heart. But well, I had a bad week, I made it worse by catching up on Rent-a-Girlfriend manga, and now I am about to vent. What did I say in my last article, again? That I did not like being overly negative? Screw that, I am about to blow a vein, and you are going to enjoy the hell out of it.

So welcome back to another article. You already know the deal. This will just be me cursing the name of the Rent-a-Girlfriend manga for the next 5-6 minutes straight for your reading pleasure and to serve as my emotional outlet. So let’s get started already. Spoiler? Who cares? NOTHING EVER EVEN HAPPENS IN THIS MANGA!!!!

When you realize literally NOTHING has changed for 400 chapters.

Let’s Talk about the Rent-a-Girlfriend Manga

Almost 400 chapters in, and we FINALLY get an actual confession! I don’t want to hear any of y’all complain about any other romance manga ever again that takes its time with the confession part. RAG just broke through every convention by placing the first-ever confession around chapter 380. OH YEAH, it took 300+ chapters for this damned manga to give us a normal date! To say that the pacing is glacial would be doing glaciers a disservice, even those melt faster than this shit right here.

OH BY THE WAY, did I mention that the date lasts 29 chapters???? And before that. We spend almost 30 chapters just PREPARING for the damn thing!! BRO WHAT THE HELL IS THIS??? And of course, we have had no character development so far. The MC, I even forgot his name, is the same lonely ass loser he was in the first episode. The only difference now is that he doesn’t have to pay for dates anymore, I guess. Well, even that is doubtful. EVERY SINGLE chapter consists of Chizuru doing something and the MC being a pure creep about it.

This right here is what the few people who read RAG EVERY WEEK for SOME GODAWFUL REASON look like. If you like this manga for some reason, THIS IS YOU.

And of course, every single chapter ends on a full-spread drawing of Chizuru because WHY NOT. If you ever have the displeasure of visiting the RAG Author’s Twitter, you will find that he is a little bit… obsessed with Chizuru. So I am pretty damn sure the manga won’t end till the author’s self-insert is married to Chizuru. Oh, by the way, the author has a wife and kids in real life, so that’s cool. OH YEAH, and speaking of the confession, do you know after almost 400 chapters, what did Chizuru say to the MC, “MAYBE, NOT NOW”

YEP! We FINALLY get a confession after the story being dragged on for almost 400 chapters, and Chizuru basically deflects it and refuses to answer. WHOOOPIE.

That is all for now

Rent-a-Girlfriend is the literary equivalent of watching paint dry on a wall that’s actively falling apart. It’s the slowest, most infuriating ride to nowhere I’ve ever subjected myself to, and I wouldn’t wish this experience on my worst enemy. If you’re still reading it, I genuinely hope you’re okay, because no sane person deserves this level of narrative waterboarding. This manga is dog water. Trash. A waste of ink and time. And I’ll see you all again when I inevitably relapse and read another 30 chapters out of morbid curiosity. God help me. See ya.
