Another Junji Itou Anime Adaptation Announced

Article at a glance:
- Another day, another Junji Itou anime adaptation, this time titled Itou Junji: Crimson, fresh off the Anime Expo 2025 stage.
- It’s being handled by Studio DEEN again… yes, them, and yes, I’m already bracing for impact.
- After the Uzumaki mess and two mediocre anthologies, it’s hard to hold on to hope, but here we go again.

Okay, here we go again. I did not expect to wake up to this. Playing catch-up with weekly anime announcements can be wild at times, but Anime Expo left us with one hell of a parting gift, it feels like. I still haven’t recovered from the mess that was the Uzumaki anime adaptation. I didn’t hate it as some others did, but come on, it did not do the manga justice. And yet, here we are again with another anime adaptation announced for a compilation of Junji Itou works.
At this point, I won’t even pretend to be optimistic. Come on, after the mess of Uzumaki, I don’t expect anything good. But well, welcome to another news article, and today we are talking about another Junji Itou anime adaptation, Itou Junji: Crimson.

What do we know about the new Junji Itou Anime?
Well, as I already told you, the anime series will be titled Itou Junji: Crimson. This announcement, too, comes to us courtesy of AX 2025. This is the 3rd anime anthology series based on Junji Itou’s works, following the Itou Junji: Collection and Itou Junji: Maniac. Those 2 were made by Studio DEEN; I don’t think I need to tell you how bad of a reputation Studio DEEN has. It is one of the very few animation studios I genuinely dislike. Ask any Fate fan about Studio DEEN, and they’ll likely choke you out.
So we are already off to a good start. Singer/songwriter Yumi Matsutoya will be performing the opening theme for the anime, Karaugesha. And like the previous anthology anime adaptations, this one will be streamed by Crunchyroll as well.

My Thoughts
I think you all can imagine how I feel about this announcement, given the tone of the article so far. It is hard for me to be negative about things off the bat, but this is an exception. I can’t see how I can possibly stay optimistic about this anime. We JUST had the Uzumaki disaster, and this is Studio DEEN we are talking about. I think everyone knows how bad the Itou Junji: Collection anime is. It was HORRIBLE. The collection adopted one of the most iconic Junji Itou stories, Tomie, and somehow managed to make it bad.
Between the Uzumaki situation and how bad Studio DEEN is in general, I really don’t see a reason to have any hope of quality from this anime adaptation. I am not sure what works; this will be adapting, but I don’t look forward to it.
That is all for now
I will stop yapping. I don’t like to be too negative on a topic, but stuff like this just drives me up a wall. It is not even fun to get mad about things like this. For example, roasting Rent-a-Girlfriend is at least fun because of how dogshit it is. But when it comes to the Junji Itou anime, it just makes me sad seeing all the wasted potential. But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
