Anime Recommendation of the Week – Bakuman

So let’s talk about this gem today. I originally watched this anime on a friend’s recommendation. Back then, I never imagined it’d end up being so close to my heart. It has been 3-4 years since I first watched Bakuman and yet, I find myself thinking about it from time to time. It may not be as iconic as Death Note but man, it is still a beautiful piece of work.
Welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series! This week we are talking about Bakuman. It is one of my favorites so well, strap in. We have a lot to talk about today… also, I may have done a Bakuman recommendation in the past but I dont remember it so…
Introduction
Bakuman is an anime based on the manga of the same name by the iconic duo, Ohbata Takeshi and Ohba Tsugumi. Yup, the same authors as Death Note and Platinum End. The manga was serialized from 11th August 2008 to 23rd April 2012 in the Shounen Jump magazine. The anime is made by JC Staff and has 3 seasons of 25 episodes each.
Bakuman is characterized by a pretty fast-paced plot full of twists and turns. I’d say a lot of the stuff of the series stems from the personal experience of the authors but, of course, I can’t be sure. The series has some really good characters and it can really hook you in. Like, I generally dont binge-watch stuff but Bakuman managed to get me to do that.
Plot
Bakuman is about Mashiro Moritaka, a simple dude uncertain about his future. He is one day approached by his classmate Takagi Akito to aim and become a mangaka with him. He is against the idea at first but, he gets all the motivation he needs when the girl he likes, agrees to marry him if his manga turns into an anime and she gets to voice act in it. And so begins the epic journey of Mashiro and Akito.
As a said earlier, Bakuman has a really fast-paced plot. That is one of the major factors that help the series in keeping the attention of the audience. There are plenty of plot twists as well which make very good use of the plot pacing. This is some good plot writing alright.
Characters
Again, Bakuman has some really good characters. Even minor characters get their time and character development. The overall work on character development is very apparent and it flows really well with the plot. There are plenty of likable characters in Bakuman like you end up rooting for a character even if you dont like them at first. The character development is that good.
Animations and Soundtracks
The animations aren’t that amazing. Bakuman doesnt need crazy animations either way. I am not a hugeΒ fan of the art style but, it works. It has been a while since I last watched Bakuman but, the opening themes are rather memorable. I dont remember the ending themes or the BGM as much. But you know, how JC Staff does stuff; you know what to expect.
Why should you watch Bakuman?
Some quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:
- Awesome plot
- Good characters
- Great pacing
- Lots of twists
- Great rewatch value
- MOTIVATIONAL
Conclusion
That is all I have for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments; I really love Bakuman and man, writing this article makes me wanna go back and rewatch it. Well, I’ll go do that right now so yea, see ya guys later!!
