Anime Recommendation of the Week – Mushoku Tensei

Oh boy, how much did I hear about this anime till it came out? I always knew the series will turn out to be good but, the anime still genuinely surprised me. Mushoku Tensei is one of the OG isekais and it still holds up really well in this day and age. The plot has aged really well and the sheer amount of world-building this series provides is amazing.
So welcome back to another edition of our weekly anime recommendation series. This week we are talking about Mushoku Tensei, one of the best isekais, period. There is a reason why I chose it for this week’s recommendation, I will discuss that later. So let’s get started for now.
Introduction
Mushoku Tensei is based on the LN of the same name by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka. The anime currently has 1 season of 23 episodes, the first half of the season aired in winter 2021, and the second half aired in fall 2021. A proper 2nd season of the anime is also currently in production. Mushoku Tensei is made by Studio Bind.
You can also watch all episodes of Mushoku Tensei and its OVA on Muse Asia. From what I understand, they are currently in the middle of re-uploading it so it is a good time to revisit this show. This is why I decided on this for this week’s anime recommendation.
Plot
Mushiku Tensei is the series that low-key popularized the shut-in getting reincarnated theme for isekais. It follows Rudeus Greyrat as he tries to make his life worth something and not repeat the same mistakes as his past life. He does everything he can to learn more about the world and protect those close to him but soon this job becomes a lot more difficult.
Sounds pretty standard so far tight? But, I only gave you a rather brief setting to avoid any potential spoilers. For Mushoku Tensei, it is much more enjoyable if you know nothing about the series. There are a lot of plot twists so shock value is very important in this series. Both the pacing and the world-building are amazingly executed.
Characters
Mushoku Tensei has a fair amount of important characters. Almost every single character who has a significant screen time is well written and given some character development. For example, Paul is not that important of a character in the overall story. But, he gets a lot of character development in just the 2-3 episodes he appears in (in the 2nd half, not the first). So goes without saying that Rudy also learns a lot throughout his journey. Mushoku Tensei really has some great and memorable characters.
Animations and Soundtracks
Studio Bind did a fantastic job on Mushoku Tensei. The art style and the animations are amazing. The soundtracks are also beautifully done. I love how they handle the opening theme in each episode. The singer remains the same but different lyrics are sung and the opening is pretty much integrated into the episode itself. It is always a beautiful song.
Why should you check out Mushoku Tensei?
Some quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:
- Great Plot
- Awesome characters
- Good animations
- Lots of plot twists
- Great world-building
Conclusion
That is all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Mushoku Tensei is beautiful anime and I really recommend people to check it out. If you have watched it already, you know it is worth a revisit. With that said I will take my leave here. See ya!
