Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4: Mid-Season Review

Wow, this season has been amazing so far. Not just for this anime, but Winter 2023 as a whole is an amazing season. We are off to a good start this year if I put the delay announcements aside. Even in this jam-packed season, it should be no surprise that Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 manages to stand out so much. The long-awaited sequel to the frankly amazing season 3 does not disappoint at all.

So welcome back to another one of my mid-season reviews. Today we are talking about Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4. Honestly speaking I didn’t think it was possible to be better than season 3, but season 4 gives it a tough competition for sure. Well, there will be minor spoilers ahead, I won’t spoil anything too big but still, consider yourselves warned. So let’s get started.

Bungou Stray Dogs: Season 4 Episodes Guide – Release Dates, Times & More

What do I think of Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 so far?

Right off the bat, man, I think the flashback arc between Rampo and Fukuzawa was really well done. I know I have said it before, but I will never grow tired of praising that arc. It gives vital background to Rampo’s character and how he thinks, and how his supposed “gift” came to be. The presentation of the whole theatre scene was really well done. And the conclusion to that arc was pretty satisfying.

We carry over directly from Season 3 after the flashback arc ends. Little to no time has passed between the present-day sections of season 3 and season 4. Kunikida is in prison because of stuff that happened near the end of season 3; Rampo is trying to clear his name. Of course, things don’t go as smoothly as he expected but, he does get what he wanted. I love how a simple book manuscript purchase leads to a whole crime and how Rampo is able to determine the criminal just based on their behavior and deduction. Exceptionally well executed.

I love the spotlight Rampo is getting in this season. I think he very much deserves it. It remains to be seen how the flashback arc will connect with the main story. Very curious to see where the present-day timeline will go from this point on because interesting things have been going on. A certain someone from season 3 will be making their return very soon. As I alluded to earlier, the overall presentation, including the animations, the direction, and the soundtracks of this season has been amazing. Studio Bones firing on all cylinders.

Conclusion

It is really hard to find a flaw in this season. If you are on the edge or something, just jump right in. Bungou Stray Dogs is worth every minute and I really recommend it. Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 gets an easy 9/10 in my opinion. I cannot wait to see the rest of this season.
