Chihayafuru Manga is Getting a Sequel!

2023 has been a year full of surprises and this one is up there. I certainly wasn’t expecting to see the announcement of a Sequel manga to Chihayafuru. Nothing in the ending of the original manga gave me signs that a sequel is coming so this is a pleasant surprise. As long as the author can maintain the quality of the story like this, I will be more than happy to read the new story!

About the Chihayafuru Manga
The original manga had been serialized in the Be-Love magazine from December 2007 to August 2022. Kodansha shipped the 50th and final volume of the manga in December 2022. It is a decently well-known manga with about 27 million volume copies in circulation. Madhouse also made 3 seasons of anime adaptation for the series with the latest one being in the Fall Season of 2019

About the Sequel
Kodansha revealed that the author, Yui Suetsugu is working on a sequel called Chihayafuru: Kimi ga Tame. And the sequel is coming sooner than you might expect. The sequel manga will be starting its serialization in the January 2024 issue of the Be-Love magazine which will be released on December 1st, 2022. We don’t know if it will be a regular serialization, one-shot, or any of those details but it is releasing in only about a month so we will find out soon.
It shouldΒ be a regular serialization judging from the fact that it is coming out in the same magazine as the original. But, we will find out for sure once it drops in December. For now, let’s move on to
My Thoughts
I am not really sure what to say here other than I am excited about the sequel. As I said, reading the ending of the original manga, it didn’t even cross my mind that a sequel is possible. But I like the Chihayafuru manga so I am up for more content of it, any day. I am not quite sure where the story will go from this point on, we don’t even know if the sequel will be immediately after the original or after a time skip. Again though, thinking about all this will only make me more excited about the manga LOL.
