Dr. Stone Science Future Part 1 Review

Article at a glance:
- Dr. Stone Science Future Part 1 struggles with pacing, with a filler-heavy first half and delayed tension buildup, making it feel uneven when viewed in isolation.
- Chrome gets standout character moments, while new antagonists Dr. Xeno and Stanley bring a fresh and compelling dynamic to the story.
- The season continues Dr. Stone’s tradition of strong visuals and music, featuring vibrant animation and a new opening theme that stands out as one of the best in the series.

Yeah, I know I am a bit late to this review but I just finished watching Dr. Stone Science Future Part 1 and I have to say, it was quite an interesting season. If you don’t know already, Part 2 is scheduled for a July 2025 release. It will be a little weird to judge the “conclusion” of this part since the whole arc isn’t over yet. But I will try my best to word my thoughts properly when we get there. This season was a bit of a mixed bag for me. It was fun throughout, don’t get me wrong but there were certain things I didn’t like.
So welcome back to another review, today we are talking about Dr. Stone Science Future Part 1. Of course, there will be spoilers ahead. So proceed with caution if you haven’t watched the season already. With that said, let’s get started.

Plot
My first complaint with the plot is that the pacing and tension are all over the place. The first episode and half of the season are basically filler. And there is no real tension up until episode 8 despite the conflict and the antagonists, Dr. Xeno and Stanley being well established by episodes 3-4. Again, I understand that this is only half of the arc so episode 8 is right before the mid-point where stories usually have rising action. It still feels a little jarring when you watch Part 1 in a vacuum though.
Aside from that, a few contrivances like Luna falling for Senku or the fact that she just happens to be a med student when they needed one annoyed me a little but that’s fine, I guess. Dr. Xeno being the person who helped Senku build his first rocket though was a cool reveal. It is always interesting how the show manages to keep Byakuya and the other astronauts relevant. This arc also makes for an interesting dynamic because this is the first time Senku is on the back foot in terms of technology. As I said, it’s a mixed bag.
Also, Senku getting shot should’ve been a bigger deal. He was out for like just 1 episode or so.

Characters
Funnily enough, Chrome of all people had some really good character moments in this part. I like how he handles the news of Senku getting shot. He gets a proper chance to showcase everything he learned from Senku. And the little interaction he had with Xeno was also very well done. And speaking of, Xeno and Stanley make for good antagonists. I hope Stanley gets more depth in the upcoming part though. Xeno represents what science without empathy is and that creates the main conflict of this arc.
But yeah, overall, the character interactions are good. Dr. Stone always nails these quirky, over-the-top characters and that’s what you get in this season as well.

Animations and Soundtracks
You don’t need this review to tell you that Dr. Stone has an amazing art style and animations, Science Future is no different. Yeah, the animations look awesome as always. As far as the soundtracks go, I really liked the new opening theme. My 2nd favorite Dr. Stone opening theme now after Rakuen from Stone Wars.
That is all for now
Here are my final review scores for Dr. Stone Scienece Future Part 1:
- Plot – 6/10
- Characters – 8/10
- Animations – 10/10
- Soundtracks – 8/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Overall – 8/10
So yeah, despite the plot being on the weaker side this time, Dr. Stone Science Future Part 1 was still enjoyable overall. I really like Xeno and Stanley as characters and yeah, I look forward to seeing what Part 2 has to offer. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
