Grand Blue Season 3 has been fun so far!

At a glance:

  • Grand Blue Season 3 is fun so far, but the opening episodes don’t hit as hard as Season 2’s did
  • The Palau arc has potential, especially the Aina and Iori stuff building up
  • OP/ED themes are still great, animation’s about the same as Season 2, no complaints there

I am still surprised that after waiting years for Grand Blue Season 2, we already have Season 3. It hasn’t even been a full year since Grand Blue Season 2 came out. But I am happy that we got more Grand Blue because I really do love this series. There’s nothing else quite like it. The way it combines humor with some genuinely great character moments feels so good to watch. But how has Grand Blue Season 3 been so far anyway?

Well, that’s what we’re here to talk about. There will be spoilers ahead since I will be talking about my thoughts on the events of the season so far. Not that spoilers matter much in an anime like Grand Blue, but still, you have been warned. With that said, let’s just get right into it.

How Has Grand Blue Season 3 Been So Far?

Grand Blue Season 3 so far

As the title says, it has been pretty good so far. There have been some absolutely unhinged moments so far. I loved the whole idea of Iori’s trip back home to convince Shiori to give his passport back. Shiori was already the best addition to the cast in Season 2; seeing her back again was just as nice. Iori and Kouhei’s shenanigans with the foreign guys were always fun to watch as well. Only fitting that they beat the Germans in a drinking game. I do feel bad about Chisa and Shiori having to deal with so many creeps around them lol.

While Season 3 has been pretty fun, the Season 2 opening was just better. Season 2 opens with introducing Shiori, and she’s a very memorable recurring character right off the bat. Season 3 opens with the gang dealing with those German dudes and Carina. I am not even sure if they’ll be relevant later on in the series. Sure, they are pretty entertaining; their “rivalry” with Iori and Kohei IS funny. I am just saying that Season 2, by comparison, just had a much stronger batch of opening episodes.

The Palau arc seems to have potential, though. Just 1 episode in and we’re getting some pretty good character work for Aina and Chisa. So I hope they keep this up, because I am really interested in seeing where Aina and Iori’s relationship goes in the future after having so many seeds planted. Kohei even straight up asks Aina about her feelings in the cliffhanger of Episode 4 lol. So we’ll see next week what comes of it.

The opening and ending themes are really fun once again, by the way. So no complaints there. Grand Blue hasn’t missed even once when it comes to opening and ending themes till now. Sure, Season 1’s opening and ending themes were the most iconic, but still, the other 2 opening and endings are awesome too. Aside from that, the production is more or less similar to Season 2. Not like something like Grand Blue needs insane animations anyway.

Wrapping Up

But yeah, those are my thoughts and opinions on Grand Blue Season 3 so far. It has been fun, but at least the first third of the Season is a downgrade compared to Season 2. In my opinion, at the very least. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
