I’m The Villainess Review, Pretty Surprising!

Not gonna lie, this anime has been one of the most unexpectedly good animes from the season. This season is pretty packed with a lot of good stuff but, most of it is pretty much what I expected. The only animes that genuinely surprised me are I’m The Villainess and The Eminence in Shadow. What makes this anime good? Well, that is what I will try to answer.
So welcome back to another one of my reviews. Let’s talk about I’m The Villainess today. My review is a bit early since episode 9 is the latest one as of now. But, I doubt the remaining 3 episodes will change my thoughts on this anime. You can also watch this anime on YouTube for free on Ani One Asia’s channel. With that said, let’s start.
Plot
I’m The Villainess has a very similar plot to HameFura. Our MC is reincarnated into the world of an Otome Game but as the villainess and not the heroine. Having played the game before dying, she uses her knowledge of the world to stay alive and get what she wants. The plot is a good combo of The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs and Hamefura. It retains the comical aspects of Hamefura with a lot of politics and twists like The World of Otome Games.
This combo really becomes the strength of the series as it goes on. My only complaint with the plot is that sometimes it goes on a little too fast and important events happen off-screen. Sometimes this is fine but sometimes it feels really jarring. Overall, I’m The Villainess has a pretty decent plot with a few pacing issues here and there.
Characters
Aileen is among my favorite MCs in recent memory just a tad bit behind Lucy and Chisato from this year for sure. She is not as well-written as either of those two but man, Aileen is a politician. She is really smart and gets what she wants out of a situation almost every time. Her and Claude’s relationship is also so well done. I love the slight moments of awkwardness they have. I’m The Villainess also boasts a pretty damn good cast of side characters as well. So nothing really anything bad to say here
Animations and Soundtracks
I’m The Villainess has pretty alright animations. I mean, it is mostly a rom-com anime so it is not like it will have crazy animations or something. The art style is definitely a highlight though, the colors and character designs are really well done. The soundtracks in general are average but the opening and ending themes are amazing both in visuals as well as the songs. Both of the songs are really catchy.
Conclusion
Here are my final scores for I’m The Villainess:
- Plot – 7/10
- Characters – 8/10
- Animations – 7/10
- Soundtracks – 7/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Aileen – 10/10
- Overall – 7/10
Well, that is all for now. I’m The VIllainess was pretty entertaining and I look forward to seeing how the season wraps up. And I really do hope we see another season of this series, it is quite different from the usual isekai rom-coms out there. With that said, I will take my leave here. Let me know what you think in the comments and yeah, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
