Jujutsu Kaisen Animator Dropping Bombshells About Mappa

Key points for Jujustu Kaisen Animator Spiting Fire news:

  • Reading about Hokuto Sadamoto’s frustrations really hit me. It’s disheartening to see animators like him facing criticism for issues that may be beyond their control.
  • I can’t help but think that Mappa’s decision to take on so many projects at once, without allowing sufficient time, may have contributed to the quality concerns in Jujutsu Kaisen. It feels like a case of overextending themselves.
  • The way some fans on Twitter nitpick and even send death threats to animators is just appalling. It’s frustrating to see a lack of appreciation for the hard work put into creating anime.

Ah, Mappa. Before this, I had my reservations about the studio but now, it is safe to say IΒ hateΒ Mappa. And yes, what happened is absolutely Mappa’s fault, they could’ve avoided it but they didn’t. A frustrated Jujutsu Kaisen animator gave us some interesting insight.

So it is not a secret that “fans” have been complaining a lot about minor animation issues and about some stupid narration being missing in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. A Jujutsu Kaisen Animator took to Twitter following the release of episode 14 and expressed his frustrations about the work and the stupid feedback they’re getting.

So let’s go over the Tweets in question first, I will save my thoughts for after that. These Tweets are from the episode director, Hokuto Sadamoto. So let’s take a look at them first.

Hokuto Sadamoto’s Tweets

A little context: they knew the quality of episode 14 would not be up to par so they gave Sadamoto an option to beΒ notΒ credited as the episode director for episode 14 to allow him to “save face” basically. But a leak revealed that he was in fact involved with the episode. This is him responding to people coming after him after seeing the leak.

250 cuts a week is insane. I don’t understand how people can go after guys like Sadamoto who are basically giving their lives for this job. That too because certain sections of an episode were not up to par even though the anime as a whole has been amazing. Poor Sadamtoo was basically having a meltdown on Twitter.

And this second tweet hits especially hard. We know that people are never grateful to the people who gave their lives to make an anime good. Sadamoto even admitted that he overreacted to the leak in the previous Tweet and that he should not have run away from his “responsibility”. But go take a single look at the reactions to episode 14 and it is pretty understandable why he chose to be a non-credit for the episode.

My Thoughts

Be it Jujutsu Kaisen or any other anime an animator should not be treated like this. No worker should be treated like this, in fact, but it happens more often than we’d like to admit. Mappa could have easily avoided thisΒ wholeΒ issue though. Just look at how many anime they have this year, Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga Season 2 (+specials/OVA), Isekai Cooking, Hell’s Paradise, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, and Kakegurui spin-off…and some more minor projects on the side. That is not normal and two of those anime are 24 episodes each.

If they just reduced their workload and focused more on Jujutsu Kaisen, they could’ve side-stepped this entire issue by giving their staff more time. Or you know, they could’ve taken a longer break before starting with the 2nd cour of this season. BUT THEY DID NOT. Even Mappa aside, anime “fans” on Twitter are hopeless. They will complain about every minor detail and nitpick an episode to death. Speaking of death, they also send death threats to animators on top of that!! Yeah, screw you Twitter “fans” and Mappa upper management.

That is all for now…

So yeah let me know what you guys think in the comments. You have no idea how hard I held back from cursing in this article. Either Way, I will take my leave here. See ya!
