Slime Season 4 is an Interesting Situation…

Article at a glance:

  • Despite trying to fix the “too many meetings” complaint from last season, Season 4 is still heavy on the sit-downs, proving that Tempest’s bureaucracy is the show’s true final boss.
  • The narrative is currently hyper-focused on the nitty-gritty of dungeon balancing and Rimuru’s slice-of-life projects, leaving the high-stakes intrigue of Mariabell and the Rosso family as a five-minute side dish per episode.
  • With Season 4 confirmed for a massive four-part run, the current slow-burn build-up is clearly laying the groundwork for some supposedly massive lore bombs and “insane” payoffs coming in the latter half.

So 4 episodes in and Slime Season 4 has been interesting to say the least. I know last season got kind of ridiculous with the amount of meetings they had, and I can see Season 4 is trying to remedy that. But.. keyword: trying. They still have at least 2 meetings per episode, if not more. What’s more, at least the first part of Season 4 won’t be that crazy, since Season 4 will be 4 parts long. So there’s naturally gonna be a lot of build-up to upcoming things in Season 4.

I would argue that this is where the LN also started getting bloated. Sure, the extra world-building and slice of life stuff is NICE, but when you just show so much build-up on the background without acting on it for a while, it does kind of feel weird. So yeah, welcome to another first impressions article, and today we’re talking about Slime Season 4! Let’s get started.

Oh yeah, there’s one VERY major spoiler ahead. So ensure you’ve watched up to Episode 4 at least.

What do I think of Slime Seaosn 4 so far?

Man, 4 episodes in, and the main focus of the story so far has been ensuring that Rimuru’s dungeon’s difficulty remains fair because a lot of people couldn’t beat it. And then it shifts to stopping this one particular party from beating the dungeon because some of the lower flowers were messed up thanks to Hinata. I know it sounds dumb, but that’s basically what the first 4 episodes have been about. Again, I appreciate the additional world-building, but do we truly need to see all the dungeon stuff in THIS MUCH detail??

And again, there IS some interesting stuff going on in the background. All the things with Mariabell and the Rosso family IS interesting. Mariabelle has a broken ability, her backstory was fun, and the reveal that Yuuki was under her control is just insane, but this whole thing has only gotten like 5 minutes per episode. The main narrative focus is still squarely on the dungeon and other SOL things in Tempest. But that’s how things are going to be given just how long Season 4 will run for.

I don’t have much to say about the production. It looks decent enough, not much has happened so far to really show off the animations. If you’ve watched the previous seasons, that’s exactly what you’re getting here. Nothing more to say as of now. I was kind of worried, given how bad Bandai Namco has been messing up their animes lately, but Slime Season 4 is fine, don’t worry.

That’s all for now

But yeah, as I said, Season 4 Part 1 is in a bit of a weird spot. This is how things are going to be for a while because Parts 3 and 4 of Season 4 will have some INSANE stuff, I promise. Huge lore bombs are coming soon as well. I will take my leave here, though. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
