The Silent Witch anime is like Bocchi but Fantasy and I love It
Article at a glance:
- Missing Bocchi the Rock? Silent Witch might just be the fantasy fix you need—with a socially anxious prodigy who’s accidentally OP.
- Monica Everett is that shy. So shy, in fact, she invented chantless magic to avoid speaking in public.
- Funny, wholesome, and surprisingly well-animated. It’s got the awkward charm and solid worldbuilding to keep you watching.
I hear you like Bocchi. It’s been a while since we had an update on Season 2, hasn’t it? Want something similar? Well, please check out the Silent Witch anime; it may not be able to replace Bocchi, but the appeal is very similar. Think Bocchi, but fantasy, and you’ll more or less get there. As the name of the anime suggests, yes. Our protagonist is so socially anxious that she ended up creating chantless magic because she was too afraid to speak the chants in front of others lol.
Yeah, the premise is absurd, and yeah, I relate to it on a spiritual level lol. So welcome back to another first impressions article, and today we are talking about the Silent Witch anime. Let’s get into it.
What do I think of the Silent Witch Anime so far?
Well, there is a little more to the premise of the show than what I just mentioned in the intro. Yeah, Monica invented chantless magic because of her social anxiety, but she is still incredibly talented in magic and is one of the 7 most powerful mages of their country. Because of her ability to cast magic without a chant and her meek personality in usual, she is given the title of “Silent Witch”. Half the fun of the show, much like Bocchi, is seeing Monica deal with situations her social battery is not capable of and panicking over something small lol.
What is the show about? Well, a former member of the 7 Sages, Louis, asks Monica to enter a prestigious school under a false setting to keep an eye on and protect the Second Prince of the kingdom. I know we watch animes like this mostly for the comedy and the charming characters, but the plot here on offer is quite interesting as well. And there has been decent plot progression in the currently aired 4 episodes as well. The overall world-building is decent as well. I hope that we get to meet the other members of the 7 Sages as well.
Also, yeah, the show is really well-animated. Not just the funny aspects, the fights look incredible, too. They use CGI so well, you won’t even notice at first glance that large chunks of the scene are in CGI. As far as my issues go, as you may expect, my main issue is pointless exposition dump. Though it’s not that egregious here, so I can ignore it. But yeah, that’s about it, really.
That is all for now
So yeah, the Silent Witch anime is fun, wholesome, has charming characters, and a surprisingly decent story to fall back on. If you have been itching for something like Bocchi to watch while waiting for Season 2, this anime should scratch that itch. But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
