Yes, you read the title right. I used could on purpose. Because Episode 1 of I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class was hilarious. Yes, there is some questionable stuff here but I think it only adds to the comedy and the tone the show is going for. I don’t know how the anime will turn out to be in the long haul but as I said, episode 1 was great and I think the anime shows promise. I don’t really expect great character arcs from it or something, as long as it can be the weekly dose of chaotic fun for me, that is fine.

But yeah, welcome to another first impressions article—the second one for the Winter 2025 season. Today, we are talking about something unexpected: I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate from My Class. Everything I am about to say is based on the first episode alone. I don’t know how things will progress in the future and you know, this is just an anime I randomly picked up without any prior knowledge. So let’s talk about it,

What did I think of I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate Episode 1?

Well, as soon as we get into the episode, the anime wastes no time in quickly introducing us to the main cast and defining their dynamics. As of episode 1, the most interesting dynamic is, of course, between the main duo. However, I have to say that Saito’s grandfather is such an agent of chaos in this show. The whole plot exists because of him. Akane and Saito, our main duo are kind of the opposites in every way. The anime very quickly establishes that they don’t see eye-to-eye at all.

We soon get to learn about the relationship between Akane and her friend Himari and Saito and his sister, Shisei. Both Saito and Akane agreed to the marriage for their own reasons. We are not told the exact reason behind their actions just yet but it is clear that both of them have a dream that they want to work towards, I think this could be a great device for character and plot development in the future, We’ll see how the show handles that topic down the line.

But as I said, the first episode was chaotic and entertaining, I know that humor is subjective, and not everyone will like this kind of thing. But I had fun with episode 1. On the production side of things, I certainly do appreciate the art style. The animations are bog standard, nothing much to talk about there. The opening theme was pretty nice too. Maybe it will grow on me throughout the next 11-12 episodes.
